Inspiring Conversations with Jocelyn Rosales of BarexJocelyn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Rosales.

Jocelyn Rosales

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always knew I wanted to do something in the beauty industry since I was in high school. Coming from immigrant parents it was scary to not fulfill their dreams of going to college and having a “traditional” career. I’m the youngest in my family. I’ve always felt the pressure of being the one that didn’t make mistakes. Later I realized I have to make myself happy no matter what. I remember feeling so scared to come back home after my first semester at college. I just knew that wasn’t the right thing for me at the time. It honestly didn’t feel like my purpose at the time. But thankfully, they later came around and I remained determined to show them I could be successful in the beauty industry. I went to school for my esthetician license after figuring out the traditional college route just wasn’t for me. After receiving my esthetician license I went straight to working for a popular waxing chain. I stayed there for about 4 years as a wax specialist. I gained a lot of experience there and became confident in my skill. Overtime, it felt like I was outgrowing that place. I needed something new, something that would challenge me. After a lot of thought and encouragement, I decided to take the risk and start my own business as a solo waxer. It’s been 2 years since I started my business and its been one of the most rewarding experiences. I get to fully connect with my clients and create a much more personable experience for them. And most importantly I get to make women feel beautiful in their bare skin.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I started this business after a really tough year mentally and emotionally. I wanted to do something for myself. I finally came to the conclusion that starting my waxing business would be something that I could pour into fulfill me at the same time. I always had people telling me why didn’t I just go solo instead of working for a wax chain especially since I had a good clientele at that point. It was scary to think of “starting over” but thankfully it all fell into place how it was supposed to. I don’t regret starting my business scared because I don’t think I was ever actually going to be “ready”. I’ve learned to have so much patience and to trust the process of having a small business. I invested so much time and money into starting up my waxing business and quickly realized how much I was risking. That gave me the realization that failing wasn’t an option. Showing up for myself and my business was the key to not giving up.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about BarexJocelyn ?
I am a fully body waxer that specializes in Brazilian waxing. I am known for creating a safe and comfortable experience for any waxing need. Most people are very hesitant or scared of getting waxed due to past experiences or just because it’s a vulnerable service to get done. My business is a judgement-free zone. My goal is to always provide a waxing experience that feels like self care and not torture. Just embracing your bare skin after waxing is a feeling I know my clients love. It gives them confidence and of course the convenience of not having to shave. I think brows and Brazilian waxes are my favorite services that I offer. I like to tell my clients that we get to just “wax & yap” at our appointments. It’s a therapy session and a wax appointment all in one and most of the time my clients aren’t focusing on the dicomfort / “pain” of pulling off a wax strip because we’re too busy yapping away.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Making people feel good about themselves and their skin makes me happy. I love being able to make someone feel better about themselves and help them feel confident. When you look good, you feel good and I love that I get to help women feel that. I think self care in general makes me happy because I value it so much myself and see how much women deserve to have self care days. I believe self care is a form of self love.
