Community Highlights: Meet Shaneda Ford of Royal Hearts Learning Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaneda Ford.

Shaneda Ford

Hi Shaneda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey in Early Childhood Education my Senior year in High School in 2004. I was volunteering at my church when I was asked to help assist with the children while the staff had a meeting. The Owner and Director were impressed with how well I maintained and offered me a job. I worked there for seven years and obtained much experience in various roles. I also was able to obtain my CDA (Child Development Associates) through Dallas College as well. I worked as a toddler teacher for an additional 3 years before getting my Director’s Credentials/License. Shortly afterwards, I became a Director, served in that position for 3 1/2 years before transitioning into a Family Home Childcare Provider. Royal Hearts Learning Center was established in 2017 and turns 8 this year! RHLC is State Regulated and maintains a 4 Star Texas Rising Star Accreditation status. I am working to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I proudly serve on several State and Local Boards along with being apart of National, State, and Local Associations.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has definitely been a roller coaster to say the least! Every challenge that arose was conquered! A key challenge I’ve faced as a home-based provider is discovering that there weren’t systems in place to protect providers switching their licensing status causing them to lose their State Accreditation Star level which resulted in them losing funding for caring for scholarship families. I spoke up about it to members on a State Board and since then, 4 laws and a new system has been implemented to ensure no one is affected again. I did regain my 4Star Accreditation status without penalty as well.

As you know, we’re big fans of Royal Hearts Learning Center. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Royal Hearts Learning Center is a State Licensed, multi award winning, and 4 Star Accredited Family Home Center that is located in DeSoto. I’m not a baby sitter nor a day care! I’m an early childhood provider who proudly partners with whole parents while assisting with the development of whole children. I specialize in working with children 18 months- 12 years. RHLC is known for our community partnerships and outreach, a viral Babymama & Babydaddy Nites Out, our sensational end of the year Graduation and Family Proms, and now recently, our real life living science center! We hatched quails from eggs as we learned about the life cycle of chickens and quails this spring! We all went on a learning journey! Being intentional about my curriculum and the children’s hands on and unforgettable learning experiences is what set me apart from others. I am most proud of the loving village that surrounds RHLC. Our Alumni Families still come around and participate with the current families. We really do life together. Even after their children graduate to big school, I’m still walking alongside the parents helping them faces fears and advocate for their children. I want the readers to know that their are many high quality and affordable childcare providers that STILL exist and is doing what’s RIGHT despite the negative connotations against childcare. RHLC offers both Full and Part Time Care Monday-Friday.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being up to date with the knowledge and wisdom of the current state of children’s health and development. Creating lasting core memories by dressing up in different Characters. Being intentional and hands on. Being an Advocate for Providers, Children, Families, and my community. Last but not least, taking self care days and vacations more seriously!
