Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Claunch Jade Onuoha.
Emily Claunch, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We actually met working together at our last shop and got really close over time. After four years of working together, we realized that we had outgrown our space and it was time for us to take the next step and create something of our own. Instead of continuing to work for someone else, we decided to invest our energy into building our own space where we could grow something that truly felt like us. We opened The Local Barber Lounge in August of this year and it’s been the best decision either of us have ever made.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, things went pretty smoothly, but our biggest challenge was definitely time. It felt like everything we ordered had some kind of delay, so getting the shop ready by our opening day was a bit chaotic. It was stressful at the time, but it made opening day feel even more rewarding.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our shop has a really judgement free and welcoming atmosphere. We wanted to create a space where anyone can come in, feel comfortable, and just relax while they get a detailed haircut. At the end of the day we want people to leave not only looking good, but feeling good too.
How do you think about happiness?
We’re happiest when the shop’s full of good energy, with everyone talking, laughing, and just feeling at home. There’s nothing better than seeing someone leave looking confident and relaxed.
