Community Highlights: Meet Jhera Woods of The Dallas Accountant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jhera Woods.

Hi Jhera, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Odessa, Texas — the real-life Friday Night Lights town. After earning my BBA, I moved to Austin to figure out what direction I really wanted to take my life. I bounced around a bit before finding my lane in accounting, but somewhere in the middle of that journey, I also tapped back into my creative side. My friend Dustin — who you might know from Fixer Upper — and I started a nonprofit focused on mental health awareness – The Alone Effect. Our first event last November was an art gallery meets live music experience, celebrating the power of storytelling and community.

Two years ago, I moved to Dallas and knew I was ready to build something of my own. I found the love of my life, we had our daughter and we have two amazing kitties. I wanted more freedom, more purpose, and more ownership over my time. That’s what pushed me to start my bookkeeping business. I wanted to take my 8 years accounting experience and my love for people and create something with that. I now help small businesses get clarity, confidence, and control over their finances.

At the core of everything I do – I just want to help people. I want to help people understand their books with integrity, give them something tangible. I want to help people grow. I want to help people be seen.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. I have started over twice in life. And quite frankly I didn’t want to move away from Austin. But I made myself fall in love with Dallas. It’s genuinely just the people. The people here are awesome and you have so many entrepreneurs here who work their a** off. You have to genuinely just believe in yourself.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Dallas Accountant. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Bookkeeping doesn’t have to suck. That is my motto. No one wants to do it – but I can make it “fun.” I help my clients understand their business, their foundation. I make numbers fun and profit easy. I help you understand exactly where your money is going and what it means.

I run a bookkeeping business that helps small business owners actually understand their finances — not just “get their books done.” I’m not the typical buttoned-up accountant; I like to keep things real, clear, and approachable. My clients come to me when they’re overwhelmed, behind, or just tired of not knowing where their money’s really going. I help them clean everything up, get organized, and finally feel in control of their numbers. This is a judgement free zone.

What sets me apart is how hands-on and personal I am with every client. I’ve worked in both accounting and recruiting, so I understand people just as much as I understand numbers. I know how intimidating finances can feel, and I make sure my clients never feel talked down to or lost in the process. And if you aren’t looking for a monthly bookkeeper and don’t know where to start, I teach you how to understand and operate your books.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that it’s real. It’s not about looking polished or corporate — it’s about being transparent, empowering, and building trust. I built this business to create freedom for myself and my family, and now I get to help others do the same.

I want readers to know that my brand is about more than bookkeeping — it’s about giving business owners clarity and confidence so they can focus on what they’re actually passionate about.

What’s next?
My plan is to network and meet as many people here in DFW as possible. I want to grow in community and genuinely make a difference here in both finances and mental health awareness. I believe we can do both. We all just need to remember we are humans first, everything else second.
