Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Hua.
Hi Vivian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I always dreamed of being an entrepreneur, but as a good daughter, I followed my parents’ wishes — to study hard, earn my degree, and find a stable corporate job.
And I did all of that. But deep down, I knew I was meant to build something of my own — something that would let me serve, inspire, and lead with purpose.
Then in 2014, an unexpected door opened. I was introduced to the sign manufacturing industry — something I never imagined for myself.
If you had asked me back then if I’d ever own a manufacturing company, I would’ve laughed.
It’s not a glamorous business — it’s demanding, hands-on, and often male-dominated.
But it’s also profoundly rewarding. Because every project we create becomes a symbol — a reflection of another business’s dream and story like my own.
As a woman in this industry, I had to learn to give myself confidence before anyone else would.
I had to speak louder, stand taller (as tall as I can sometimes), and believe harder — even when I was overlooked or doubted.
Every obstacle became a lesson. Every “no” became fuel.
And every client connection — many of whom have become friends — reminded me why I do what I do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I started my first business with a former partner in February of 2014. We got our first start at a flea market, and by January of 2015 we got our first warehouse. Unfortunately, my former partner mismanaged it and within 6 months I lost all my savings, my initial investments, and even my 401k. I stood on shaky ground, but I need to make a firm decision – continue working my 6-figure corporate job or go all in with the company. I was backed into a corner, and I made the hard choice to leave my corporate job and put my all into the company. After 6 years of hard work, I hit another bump in 2021, and I was cut out of my company. All the hard work and sleepless nights, gone. But this did not stop me; my parents raised me to be resilient, and I had a lot to prove to the world, and more importantly – myself. I started over, completely from scratch and completely on my own. I navigated the city permitting, cold calling, accounting and more completely from scratch. These struggles help lay the very foundation my company is built on.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
DeSIGNco is a premier Woman-Owned and Operated signage company based in Carrollton, though we have assisted with many projects across the state. We handle all types of signage and vinyl production, however Channel Letters are our bread and butter! We produce high quality signage, while ensuring smooth project transactions, all with a detail-oriented and focused driven team. We also handle car wraps, banners, LED signs – if you can think it, we can make it – and all with a smile!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I anticipate a much more streamlined process when it comes to AI integration, particularly in areas like city permit approvals. In terms of trends, we can expect an increase in remote work, especially within project management roles. The design process will also become more efficient, allowing for faster production timelines. Additionally, I foresee a shift from traditional printed materials to more digital signage, similar to what’s commonly seen in international markets.
