Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Levall.
Hi Michelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a “theatre trunk” as they say. My mother and some friends started a neighborhood theatre in the 1980s when I was a small child. My dad used a coffee can for our spotlights and we performed in backyards. Then my mother got the “bug” and created a non profit children’s theatre. So it was really in my lineage all along to do something in the arts. I was a child actor for most of my adolescence. As i became a teenager I found so much joy in choreography. I got alot of opportunities very early on and it helped mature me into a strong leader. I then decided I wanted to try it in New York. So I went to school at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I learned fairly quickly that New York wasn’t my city, I was far too Southern and the idea of being a “starving actor” wasn’t appealing to me. I moved back home to Dallas and started working professionally. I have always been a bit of a side gig girly and worked as a commercial model, dance teacher, party princess and continued performing locally. I began my life in education teaching preschool and through that job my reputation took over and I started getting asked to work all over. I work as a full time theatre director/teacher and choreographer. My car is always full of props and costumes as I travel all over Dallas working on up to 15 Musicals at a time. I have 4 amazing kids and a loving and supportive husband.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am a bit of an optimist and cant say Ive had too many professional struggles. I would guess the hardest thing I have had to overcome is that I didn’t finish College, and getting places to trust in my background and experience over a degree has been a challenge. However Luckily reputation and word of mouth is so big in this industry I have been lucky enough to have people believe in my abilities.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
