Meet Mary Brezik of Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Brezik.

Hi Mary, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I worked for a large speech therapy company for 10 years and had made my way to lead all of the feeding therapy services for the company. I had 3 kids and looked around and realized this was no longer a desire of mine to climb within a company. I wanted to be able to what I love within the hours that my kids were in school. I also wanted to build more than just a speech therapy practice- a business that was FOR Fort Worth and the community, that emphasized community partnerships, knowing our healthcare providers and teachers personally, and was committed to providing continuing education and personalized trainings. Our podcast was started to do just this- to give free education to parents, teachers, providers and also give community leaders and local businesses a platform to share who they are. We also wanted to provide the kind of speech therapy services WE wanted as mothers- highest quality services with the best trained and highly experienced clinicians, who are connected moms in the community and “get it”, provided during the school day when kids are freshest and their teachers can be involved in their goals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s interesting- things that were initially great opportunities would turn into struggles when we had grown out of them. For example- I started out as having a mobile practice. This allowed me to see patients in their home and at their preschool and private schools, and meet them were they were without the overhead of rent as I was getting started. That same flexibility became a struggle as my schedule became more full and I needed to decrease my travel time to be able to optimize time with patients. I feel like it’s a constant pattern of opportunities and struggle! The struggle is a sign we have grown out of something, or that we need to make a change.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most known for my feeding therapy, and am sought out for helping them problem solve through complex cases. There’s a huge need for medical providers who are knowledgeable about both modern medicine and functional medicine, and how textbook data translates into real families’ lives. I’m most proud of problem solving from a whole-body perspective, together with incredible medical and educational partners in the metroplex. We have incredibly talented dentists, physical and occupational therapists, teachers, and collaborators.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Absolutely! We have to thank our families first and foremost who trust us with their children’s care. We know what an honor and a privilege that is- and the huge responsibility along with it. I also have a wonderful network of medical and educational providers who have referred families to us, and are interested in geeking out with us and learning about each others professional worlds and how they are all related. I also owe a lot of credit to my business partner, Kim Dillon, who I would not have taken the leap of faith without! She is the backbone of our business from managing our website and behind the scenes IT so that I am able to provide continuing education without a glitch. Together we make a great team!
