Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucrecia Waggoner.
Hi Lucrecia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a porcelain artist, I have been doing ceramics most of my life, I started with courses of art and crafts at the anthropology museum in Mexico City, where I am from, then never stoped. Through out the years I have been taken workshops, classes and a master in ceramics all around the globe. One day I was throwing just for fun and making tons of utilitarian pottery and today I create art pieces that intel hundreds of vessels that flow effortless in a wall space. All came one by one little by little. My installations are a process of years and years of growth as an artist and as an individual.
“ throughout my life, ceramics has been the expression that touches my soul “
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I do not think smooth roads are always possible, we need to get where we are today through winding roads.
The most struggle was years ago when I had the idea of not using my pottery anymore, I wanted people just to admire it. It was a challenge to switch from utilitarian art to a gallery installation artist. Now days the challenge is to keep up with the demand as every single piece is hand thrown and adorne with precious metals, one by one.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for creating site specific contemporary at works that invites the viewer to contemplate, meditate and enjoy!
As my vessels are individually thrown, each one of them is different, I would say like snow flakes, discovering each time something different in them is always fun.
I think of my self as a minimalist but also strive to show expression of my passionate personality and rich cultural background.
The contemplation of my works I believe conducts to a peaceful feeling that I would like to express to my collectors.
What sets me apart from others, I believe, is that I have created a niche where conventional canvas are hard to place. Meaning, my work expands on difficult wall spaces like high ceilings, stairwells, curved walls etc.. when creating an art collection, no matter the size of it, it’s important to have different mediums with it, paintings and sculptures go hand in hand!
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in Mexico City, a happy childhood full of culture, life and lucky enough to always make it work to travel and learn. The inspiration of my works are from what I see everyday and what I see far away. The eclectic markets from Mexico, the peaceful sights in the far east, the ocean and the mountains are my muses and inspiration.
I have been always creative and curios. Extroverted and sometimes shy… ( people won’t believe that because I can act too)
I loved creating, dancing and horseback riding. Loved always to be surrounded by positive people, friendships are very important to me. Spots, we’re not my thing, unless they became an adventure!
Today, I am grateful for my family, my husband and 2 wonderful children that light up the room when they walk in.
With gratitude and love,
Lucrecia
