Rising Stars: Meet Rebekah.l.myer@gmail.com Myer of Tyler, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah.l.myer@gmail.com Myer.

Hi rebekah.l.myer@gmail.com, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for flowers started as a child. I was the kid who always picked wildflowers and making arrangements for my mom. Art has always been a passion of mine starting with watercolors as a child painting with my grandmother. Flowers were often painted by us. My parents always had gardens and a grew up around many varieties of plants and flowers and creating arrangements from the flowers they grew. Most recently, I have a garden with a variety of flowers and plants that I grow. After opening our first business, Tyler Golf, my husband and I were looking for ideas for a second business that would diversify us and fulfill my need for creating art. After searching for ideas, a flower shop was an idea that we could not shake. With a young toddler we knew we did not have the time to dedicate to a fulltime florist shop, so we were forced to be creative and that is where the idea of a flower bar was born. Opening Friday and Saturday, we bring in fresh flowers on Friday and sell through Saturday which ensures top quality and blooms that last at least a week.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since this was a second business, we kind of knew what to expect opening a new business. Growth is slow but steady. Our concept of “make your own bouquets” is a very new concept for Tyler but people are coming to love it. We do not have many struggles but there is a great learning curve. Learning all the flower names, flower seasons, and various sides of the flower business is challenging at times. Social media has been the biggest learning curve. As an old millennial, utilizing social media as a business tool has been a learning experience but one we are learning to have a lot of fun with.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Olive Branch Flower Bar we specialize in helping others create their own amazing bouquets. I love helping customers who think they are unable of creating something beautiful and seeing their faces after they make a bouquet. Flowers are such an easy art medium to work with. Nature is full of varieties of colors and textures. We try to create bouquets that are full of these varieties and reflect nature. What sets us apart is the educational aspect of our flower shop. I also instruct classes to teach others how to create seasonal arrangements as well as various art projects. I truly believe we all are able to create beautiful art, but some people need a little help building their creative confidence. An additional element we are proud of is our mobile flower cart. We use this cart to bring flowers into the community at different events. Every Tuesday we also give any remaining flowers from the previous week away to businesses in our community. The smile flowers bring to people is truly so fun to see. We do this to spread a little love and cheer to our business neighbors.

What does success mean to you?
Success is defined in different ways. Monetary success is easy to measure. However, monetary success is not the most important success to me. I would define success as reaching my personal goals, having a positive impact in my community, and using my business to spread “Peace through Petals”.
