Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Daniels.
Hi Erica , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been singing all my life. I started in school and church choir. I started my first group when I was 13. That’s also when I began to focus on writing and arranging songs. I meet a producer when I was 19 and that’s when I saw how the process of making/recording a song goes. I spent the next few years living, studying and working on my craft as a songwriter. I released my 1st single in 2014. I’ve just continued to live and grow since then. I released my 1st EP this year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
That’s hard to answer. I guess it depends on if there was a goal. I never wanted to be a solo artist. I always thought my music career would be as a group with my friends. Life had other plans. I express myself through songwriting. My focus musically has been to grow and develop that. I guess the biggest challenge would be life itself. There’s no art if there’s no life. You have to live to write. Well I do. I’m currently in that space so we’ll see what comes of it
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Known for? I don’t think I’m known lol but I am a songwriter and as an introvert I’m proud to be in a space to share my music. I’m growing and exploring what that looks like for me. I’m looking forward to the journey. What sets me apart is I’m me. Our individuality is what makes us special. Nobody can be you.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Social media and technology will definitely be causing a major shift in the world of music and all creatives over the next 5 to 10 years. They already have. Copyright issues, AI, overexposure, the pressure of doing what’s trending instead of what’s true to you and the list goes on. Who knows what’s to come, I only encourage creatives to stay true to who they are. That is where the magic is
