Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Pearson.
Hi Tara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well a little over 10 years ago-I started my career as a hairstylist with nothing more than a deep love for creativity and connection. What began as Born to Balayage was really the first chapter of me finding my rhythm-a space where I could help women feel confident and beautiful while honing my craft as an artist. But over time, I started to feel the tug for something deeper-to slow down, to live with more intention, and to create from a place that felt sustainable not just for the planet, but for my soul.
That calling became Sustainable Soul-a holistic salon and refillery designed to merge luxury and consciousness. It’s where beauty meets mindfulness-an environment that honors both the earth and the women who walk through our doors. I wanted every detail, from the refill bar to the lighting, to every event we host to feel like a breath of calm in a world that moves too fast.
As I grew, so did my purpose. My creative passions began to branch out-from vintage curation to soulful community gatherings-and I realized that my work had become much bigger than a salon. It had become a way of life. That’s when Tara Pearson Collective was born-the umbrella that ties it all together: the artistry of hair, the nostalgia of vintage, and the heart of intentional living.
Now, my mission is to create spaces and experiences that remind people that success doesn’t have to mean chaos-that there’s power in slowing down, creating beauty with purpose, and living a life rich in meaning and time wealth.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, it’s definitely not been a smooth road- but I think that’s what makes it beautiful. Every chapter has stretched me in different ways.
In the early days of Born to Balayage, I was saying yes to everything and everyone. Working long days and missing all the small moments as a Mother. I was chasing success the way I thought I was “supposed to,” until burnout and covid as a new mom hit hard. Becoming a mom shifted everything-I started craving more peace, more purpose, and less hustle. Learning to slow down while still growing a business felt like trying to rewire everything I knew about success.
Opening Sustainable Soul in the middle of that transition was both a dream and a test. Creating a business that’s rooted in intention and sustainability meant undoing a lot of the old ways of working- the overbooking, the perfectionism, the pressure to do it all. There were moments I questioned if people would even understand what I was trying to build.
But those challenges taught me how to trust myself. They pushed me to build something that feels aligned from the inside out- not just successful on paper.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work lives at the intersection of beauty, sustainability, and soul. I’m a hairstylist, salon owner, and creative entrepreneur-but at the heart of it, I’m someone who helps women reconnect with themselves through intentional care and storytelling.
At Sustainable Soul, my focus is on creating an experience that feels restorative, not rushed. I specialize in natural, lived-in color and effortless, low-maintenance beauty that grows with you, the kind that looks just as beautiful on day 90 as it does on day one. Every detail, from the refill bar to the music to the products we use, is designed to create a space where people can slow down and breathe again.
Beyond the salon, Tara Pearson Collective is where all my creative passions meet-from vintage curation to soulful gatherings to education for other women who are craving purpose-driven work. I’m proud that what I’ve built is more than a brand-it’s a feeling.
What sets me apart is the way I blend artistry with authenticity. My clients don’t just come for the hair-they come for the calm, the conversations, and the connection. I believe beauty should feel like coming home to yourself, and that’s exactly what I aim to create every day.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When it comes to finding a mentor or building a network, my biggest advice is to start with energy over titles. The best mentors and connections usually aren’t found-they’re felt.
For me, it’s never been about chasing people who seem “successful,” but about surrounding myself with those who live and lead in a way that inspires me to grow while still staying grounded. I’ve learned so much from women who are generous with their wisdom, humble in their success, and willing to have real, vulnerable conversations-the ones who remind you that you don’t have to do it all to do it well.
What’s worked best for me is simply showing up, Wether that’s everyday behind the chair, at my vintage booth, a community event, or online-and leading with authenticity. When your energy is genuine and aligned, you naturally attract people who match it. Some of the most meaningful mentorship in my life has come through friendship, collaboration, and shared purpose-not formal programs or checklists.
At the end of the day, mentorship isn’t just about guidance; it’s about reflection. The right people will help you see yourself more clearly and remind you of the potential that’s been there all along.
