Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Foley.
Hi Cameron, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Last Night of Solace started evolved from a project guitarist Jeiden Lovell and I (Cameron, Vocalist) started in high school. In 2022 we decided we wanted to rebrand and go a different direction. I met our other guitarist Kennedy at our orientation at guitar center. We hit it off right away and had lot in common and I asked him to come in and audition. Following this I was introduced to our drummer Andy through a family friend. We had him come in and audition and despite our misgivings about his age at the time (he was 14) he proved himself extremely talented and we brought him on. Once our lineup was finalized we set to work on writing new music. Eventually after reaching out for a collab with a larger artists he put us in touch with his producer who ended up helping us write and complete our first album over the course of 2022-early 2023. After we released our first two tracks in early 2022 we ended up getting the opportunity to open for the band Element Eighty at Trees, in Deep Ellum after me and Kennedy met their vocalist at guitar center. From that point forward we reached out to other local promoters and secured smaller shows throuhout 2022, eventually scoring Ridglea Metalfest and another gig opening for Element Eighty in January 2023. We got on the radar of larger promoters in the area, worked hard selling tickets, and began getting gigs opening up for larger tour packages as well as festival spots such as So What music festival. We’ve continued to be hard at work in 2024 where we’ve released a new EP,created buisness relationships with many industry professionals, artists and creators, collaborated with Kellin Quinn from Sleeping With Sirens, and completed a self-booked west coast tour.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. I think starting any business especially one that involved a creative medium is an uphill battle. We’re all in college working part time jobs, or working full time jobs and pursuing a trade. We also self manage, self book, and create content for social media. Our biggest challenges have been time management and staying on top of communication with one another. It’s a lot of work for us to be able to schedule days for us to all work together on a song, practice, record, and especially to get a month or two where we’re all free for tour. Because of these challenges we often have to piece songs together one person at a time over a period of months to perfect them to a state where all parties are happy with the track. Despite our busy schedules we’ve never stopped giving it our all and pushing forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Last Night of Solace is a alternative metal band based out of the Dallas Fort Worth area. We’ve played all over the Texas music scene and have toured nationally. We received notoriety from our debut album Too Far Gone featuring collaborations with artists such as Notions and Chelsea Grin and recently released our brand new EP Phantom Pain featuring a collaboration with Sleeping With Sirens Vocalist Kellin Quinn. As a band I think we’re most proud of the new music we’re currently writing for our next album as well as completing our first tour outside of Texas in the Summer of 2024. Our unique genre bending sound is something I think makes us stand out. We aren’t scared to collaborate with artists of all genres and often incoporate elements of other styles of music such as edm, hip-hop, industrial, deathcore, technical metal, progressive rock, goth, and more into our sound. No song sounds exactly the same. Outside of our main project we are all active in the local music industry. Our drummer Andy often fills in for other bands, our bassist austin has played for other projects in the past and helps out with other musicians at his college, and Cameron has helped other bands book tours, connect with industry professionals, has booked locals shows, has been in multiple projects, and does production and audio engineering work.
How do you think about luck?
While there is always an element of “luck” in any industry I think its more about creating opportunities through hard work and then being prepared for those opportunities when the time comes. A lot of people fail because they aren’t ready for opportunities when they arise but you have to pick yourself back up and keeping working hard cause eventually you will be in the right place at the right time. We’ve definitely had our share of opportunities on our plate that we weren’t ready for. In some of these cases we got passed up and in other times we’ve had to really step up to plate and work hard to succeed despite our circumstances. If you work hard you will eventually find success and see good opportunities come your way, just be prepared to seek out opportunities as well, thats part of the process.
