Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Pagel.
Hi Katie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in the wedding and event industry in college, working for an Austin planner. This is where I learned what the day of events looked like. After close to two years of the ins and outs of being an assistant, I moved to Dallas and begin my time with As You Wish Events. Upon starting with this luxury company, I was immediately introduced into the planning side of things and learned timelines, floor plans, booking vendors and the order they should be booked in based on priority as well as assisted in upscale events from start to finish. Two short years later with the AYW team, I took ownership of the business. Now two years into ownership, I am creating and designing luxury weddings, birthday parties, proposal, holiday parties and so much more.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every planner knows that there are bumps in the road but it’s all about how you handle the pressure and learn from the mistakes. Being a luxury planner you are essentially everyone’s point person. All vendors, the client and guests are looking at you all throughout the day and it’s my job to be able to problem-solve any mishaps that come our way not only on the day of the event but also leading up to it. I can’t say every event has been perfect, because that rarely happens, but I can say when the bumps come on event day, 99% of the time the client has no idea. And that is exactly why they hired us.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As You Wish is a luxury wedding and event planning company. We are Dallas based but travel wherever our client’s want to take us! Although we fill our calendars mostly with weddings, we also do other events such as holiday parties, milestone birthdays, proposals, company launch parties and so much more. We specialize in service and design. Service for our clients is high priority as we know when it comes to planning an event, there are a lot of key details that cannot be overlooked and we want to make sure our clients know that we’re there with them every step of the way.
Something fun about As You Wish when it comes to design is that our goal is to make it completely custom and unique to the client. We like to pull in personalized details and create wow-factor statement pieces that the guests have not seen before but will not forget. Design is by far our favorite part of the planning process!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
As the owner, I define success for As You Wish when we have a happy client. It’s important that our client has a great experience throughout the planning process but we know we’ve really hit it out of the park when days after the event, they’re still raving about how great everything was and that people cannot stop talking about it. We really know we’ve done the well when the client comes back to us for another event or a guest from their past event hires us based on how they felt as a guest.
