Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Beavers.
Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Upon graduating from Texas Tech University with a Fashion Design and merchandising degree, even though my degree was in design, I found out quickly that my strength was more administrative and team building. I was able secure my first job as a sample room coordinator with Ocean Pacific in California. After working for OP for a couple of years, my husband Rick and I moved back to Texas where I worked for a high-end men’s western line that was sold to Neiman Marcus and other premium boutiques. As VP of the company, I learned all aspect of the industry and made invaluable connections. Once I had my 3rd child I felt like I needed a job that was more flexible, thus I went out on my own. Previous clients and connections from the industry started to contact me to manage their production of their clothing lines. In the beginning I worked with independent cutting and sewing factories around Dallas managing client’s production of their products. Working with these factories created a lot of frustration due to the lack of communication and honesty from them.
In 2005 I turned my frustration into opportunity and opened my own independent production company Sonrise Apparel Services. My focus was on meeting deadlines, giving the best customer service while maintaining constant professionalism. In this fast-paced world, great customer service and outstanding quality gets overlooked by production quotas and cheap products. My focus was to build a great team and appreciate each person for their value.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many ups and downs in business from the economy challenges during certain years, employee challenges, and really defining who we are as a company. My business model has changed a few times over the years to be able to capitalize on the current manufacturing needs.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sonrise Apparel Services?
Sonrise Apparel Sevices is a contract cutting and sewing company. Sonrise started out making apparel and quickly adapted into a multitude of different products. We specialize in small utilitarian items such as small bags and cases, dance wear, costumes for dance groups, lingerie, uniforms, athleticwear, etc… Our best customers have a large consistent production flow of same type items. We strive to have good open lines of communication with each client along with trust. We are an honest company who does what we say we will do. We have a positive team who has been working at Sonrise for many years and are very skilled.
We are not a custom, alterations, or special-order shop. We are a mass production factory.
I love what I do, and I look at Sonrise as more than just a business. I view Sonrise as a ministry where I can encourage people and try to help make their lives better. Over the years, many people have asked about the spelling of Sonrise and I tell them that as a follower of Jesus Christ, all that I have and all that I do belongs to Him. Therefore, I wanted to honor Him in the name by acknowledging that Sonrise is His business. He has blessed me over the years, and I am so grateful that He is with me every day and has given me much success over the years.
