Hi Valery, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started with a growing interest in hospitality and events while working at different stadiums, wedding venues, and private events. After graduating with an Associate of Arts from Collin College, my passion for creativity and for crafting unique experiences led me to pursue a Bachelor’s in Event Design and Experience Management at the University of North Texas.
In early 2024, I decided to take a chance and bring my luxury picnic business idea to life. Things didn’t go as planned that first year, but I didn’t give up. In February 2025, I tried again and was fully booked for Valentine’s Day. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to create special moments for couples celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, romantic dates, and even proposals.
It’s been a journey of taking risks and facing the unknown, learning to go one day at a time. My business is still growing, and there’s a long way to go, but my biggest goal is to bring larger visions to life, curating and designing full event décor while keeping a personal touch in every detail. Being able to create such meaningful moments for others is one of the most rewarding feelings. I don’t see it as just a service; I put my heart into every detail, as if I were planning it for my closest friends.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. My first attempt in 2024 was a learning experience. Being a student while exploring the idea of starting a business meant my resources were limited, and I couldn’t afford to purchase all the equipment up front. I spent that time designing concepts and creating mockups of my picnic setups, which I shared on Facebook Marketplace to gauge interest. While I received some inquiries, gaining trust without followers, a website, or reviews was challenging.
I realized I needed to build credibility. So, I started saving, and by January 2025, I had purchased all the equipment needed for my picnic setups. I opened a TikTok and Instagram, and began posting about what I could offer. Also, I found a secure, trusted platform for customers to complete the deposit with peace of mind. These changes were a total game changer. Today, I have seven different setups and have been able to create unique, memorable experiences for my clients through my luxury picnic business.
We’ve been impressed with Ethereal Design, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business specializes in creating luxury picnic experiences and personalized event décor. We design and set up unique outdoor experiences tailored to each client, whether it’s a birthday, baby shower, bridal party, romantic date, or proposal. We’re best known for our Bubble Tent setup, a crystal-like dome that transforms a picnic into a truly magical and memorable experience.
What sets us apart is the combination of creativity, attention to detail, and a personal touch; every setup is curated as if we were planning it for our own loved ones. Our clients love the thoughtful details, themed designs, and multiple setup options that make each occasion feel unique and unforgettable.
I’m most proud of growing the business from the ground up, starting as a student with limited resources and turning it into a trusted, one-of-a-kind service that creates beautiful setups, turning people’s special occasions into lasting memories. What I want readers to know is that we focus on creating meaningful experiences with our unique and customized designs, close attention to detail, and prioritizing our clients needs every step of the way.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’m especially grateful to Gania, who joined me at the start of this journey. Together, we worked on improving the business and shaping our services. Although she has moved out of state, we’re still finding ways to stay connected and explore new possibilities together to keep expanding the reach of our services.
My mom and my boyfriend have also been incredible cheerleaders, always offering encouragement, helping with logistics, and lending a hand whenever needed. Their support has been essential in making every picnic seamless and memorable.
Finally, and most importantly, my clients have played an essential role. Their trust, support, and word-of-mouth recommendations have been key to building and growing the business. I’m so thankful for all the amazing people I’ve come across; they play a huge role by trusting me with their special moments, providing feedback, and helping the brand grow.
