Tedra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started doing taxes when I was eighteen years old for two years. The person I previously worked with contacted me stating they had made some changes and like me to come back I was twenty two almost twenty three, I was there for until i was twenty six years old. When I got pregnant with my daughter my last child I was working at a ballpark as a stadium manager managing several stands at one time, I worked until they said i couldn’t anymore and had to take maternity leave, I was board and saw liberty tax sign stating learn how to prepare taxes for free so I signed up the booklet they gave was $50 I completed the training and was asked to work for company once I have my daughter. I came back nine weeks later as a health insurance agent i was so good at it and was very knowledgeable with taxes they offered me my own office my first season with them, once the season started they needed more managers at other location and asked me if I could handle them also I am always up for a good challenge so I said yes. I was managing four offices my first year from hiring, marketing and keeping all four in order it was great until I asked for a particular office and wasn’t given it for a valet reason. With that and the way things were changing I decided to no longer work there I paid a friend work in her office cause i had so many clients leave with me, I end up helping another person run her tax office for two years and end up having to open my own tax firm with that it came with buying software, flyers, company shirts, purchasing a website, getting logo’s designed for tax company and software company and a lot of stuff to help build the company and train tax preparer’s that I hired and i have been running my tax firm successfully going on my fifth year along with other profitable business’s making me a serial mompreneur.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had a obstacle with thinking I was a service bureau when actually it was only software.
