Inspiring Conversations with Jessica of HairbyJessicaMcNatt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica.

Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My love for hair started way back in middle school. Every 6–8 weeks, I’d look forward to getting my hair cut — not just for the fresh ends, but for the whole experience. I loved everything about it: the smell of the salon, watching stylists create, and listening to the conversations that filled the room.
In 2018, I decided to follow that spark and started cosmetology school. After graduating, I spent a few years working in commission salons, learning, growing, and soaking up all the knowledge. I’m grateful for those experiences, they shaped me into the stylist I am today.
However, I always dreamed of creating my own space. One where my clients could relax, feel seen, and leave glowing. At the end of 2022, that became a reality when I opened my own suite. It’s been one of the most fulfilling chapters, and I can’t wait to keep growing, learning, and making people feel beautiful every single day

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not exactly, but every challenge has helped me grow. Early on, I struggled with imposter syndrome and fear of failure. Moving into my own suite brought new challenges too — learning the business side and trusting myself to handle it all. But it’s been so worth it. Every step has made me more confident and grounded in who I am as a stylist

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At my suite I want every client to feel welcome, seen, and at ease from the moment they walk in. The space has a cozy, fun, boho vibe where you can relax and actually enjoy your time in the chair.
I favor balayage and highlight services, but honestly, I find joy in a simple gray coverage service as well. Hair health is always my top priority, and I take pride in working with integrity — I never want someone to just leave happy, I want them to stay happy with their hair long after they leave.
What sets my brand apart is the connection I build with each client. I don’t see people as numbers. My chair is a space for you to breathe, laugh, and leave feeling lighter and more confident

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Working at commission salons with a number of stylists with different years of experience helped me
