Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Asberry.
Hi Anthony , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
You want the real story? It starts and ends where I’ve always belonged: the gym. Since day one, I had that drive for sports. Basketball and football, those were just the things that kept me in the gym, putting in the work. Even at Northeastern State University, I was playing those intramural games. The weight room; that wasn’t a chore. It was the only place I ever felt like I was really thriving.
After those years of high-level sports, the passion just didn’t quit. So I kept lifting weights. It was simple: get older, stay in shape. But let’s be honest, my body wasn’t just “in shape.” I was already looking pretty sharp. You could tell. One day, I was putting in my work when this gentleman—a real bodybuilding guy—walked up. I knew nothing about that world, just lifting heavy and posing. But he saw it. He saw the physique I already had. He agreed to coach me. We were locked in for just eight weeks, and trust me, that was all I needed. The rest, as they say, is history.
Look, I didn’t just show up to the Ronnie Coleman Classic in 2017; I dominated it. I took first place in three categories. THREE. That win qualified me immediately for the national championship event. From there, it was straight to the biggest stage: the Pittsburgh Pro. I went in, I did what I do, and I walked out having turned IFBB Pro in Men’s Physique. That’s the best bodybuilding league in the world, the one everyone knows. I earned my spot there. It wasn’t luck; it was the dedication I always had, finally put on the right stage.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Look, anyone who tells you this journey, especially bodybuilding, is a “smooth road” isn’t putting in the real work. It’s a roller coaster. And if you take the approach I did, the All-Natural route, you are deliberately choosing the steepest climb possible. I chose my health over the easy path. Being natural is extremely difficult. You’re fighting against genetics and gravity every single day, with zero chemical shortcuts. It requires a level of strictness that most people just can’t handle. But the long-term rewards? They are mine, and they are worth it.
The toughest struggle isn’t the weights; it’s life itself. You think you can just keep that laser focus 24/7? No way. Things happen. Injuries hit you when you least expect it. You’re feeling dominant one day, setting new personal bests, and the next day, an unexpected setback knocks you down. That’s the nature of high-level fitness. The only thing that separates the champions from the quitters is this: consistency is the key. I’m not talking about just showing up; I’m talking about being mentally tough enough to push through the unexpected injuries, the diet fatigue, and the days when your body just refuses to cooperate, all while knowing you are competing against guys who aren’t playing by the same natural rules. You have to be better, cleaner, and more consistent than everyone else just to stay in the game. That’s the real struggle, and frankly, that’s what proves I earned that IFBB Pro status.
The struggles are the price of being All-Natural. It’s a 24/7 job that demands a level of control over your body and mind that most people don’t even know exists.
An injury can drop you instantly. You’re on top of the world one set, then your shoulder flares up. When you’re pushing the sheer muscle mass I am, being natural means your connective tissue and joints are under maximum stress. The struggle is knowing when to stop. Most guys are weak; they push through pain and end up on the sidelines for months. I know my body better than anyone. I had to learn to respect the damage, pull back the ego, and pivot the training. You don’t take a vacation; you change the angle. You turn a setback into an advantage by working on a weak point while the injured area recovers. That is discipline.
As a natural athlete, my body can’t chemically synthesize the massive recovery and growth that others get. So, the food has to be perfect. It’s not just “eating right, “it’s a calculated formula. You weigh everything. You track everything. You have to eat when you are absolutely not hungry. You have to say “no” to every convenient garbage meal because one slip impacts your recovery and growth for days. I treat my body like a high-end, custom-built engine. You don’t put low-grade fuel in a machine built for Pro performance.
Getting enough rest is the final pillar, and it’s the hardest because your mind is always racing. You’re constantly worried about the next workout, the next meal, the next show. You have to be aggressive in the gym, but aggressive about learning how to relax. Knowing when to stop isn’t just about injuries; it’s about checking out mentally. You have to force yourself to put the phone down, walk away from the mirror, and let the system recover. The growth happens when you’re resting, not when you’re grinding. If you can’t master your rest, you fail. Simple as that.
The biggest struggle, and the ultimate test of commitment, is how to say no to steroids. When you’re at the top, when you see guys on stage that clearly took the shortcut, the temptation is always there. But I made a choice: I chose my health, my longevity, and my integrity over a faster Pro Card. How do you say no? You look at the science of the heart damage, the hormonal wreck, the temporary gains. And you look at the person you want to be: a real champion who earned every single ounce of muscle. The shortcut is for the weak-minded. My pride is in knowing that my physique is 100% my own work.
Finally, there are the days when you have zero emotional capacity left. The diet has you fried, the weights feel like lead, and your motivation is gone. This is where the difference is made. You don’t rely on “emotion.” You rely on structure. You remember the process. You put one foot in front of the other. You force the routine. You push when you don’t want to because you know that feeling of not wanting to is just a test. You find that small, quiet voice that got you into the gym as a kid, and you let that pure drive take over. You push the reps, not for the show, but for the discipline itself. That’s the muscle that matters most.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
People know me as AmpMuscle. That’s not just a nickname; it’s the brand I built the moment I earned my status as an IFBB Pro Bodybuilder. My specialization is simply winning, achieving perfection in my physique, and accumulating the trophies of that dedication in life. My collection of top-tier cars serves as proof. The loud, unmistakable signal to the world that I am a winner and that hard work pays off. Why else would I push myself if I didn’t have something impressive to show for it?
The AmpMuscle influence extends far beyond the stage. I channel that Pro discipline into my own company, the AMGA Fit clothing line. This isn’t just fabric; it’s motivation you wear.
The core of the brand is built on the same principles that got me my Pro Card:
Get Amp’d: That’s the mindset. You have to bring the energy every single day.
Just Keep Going: You fight through the pain and the doubt.
Put in the Work: Nothing happens by accident.
These slogans are the hallmark quotes that define the brand. I’ve also taken my unique Pro knowledge and helped train others to achieve their fitness goals, showing them the exact disciplined system that works. I make people feel better about themselves, but I always back that up with a concrete path to success.
The thing I am most proud of is being an All-Natural Professional Bodybuilder. Achieving IFBB Pro status without any chemical shortcuts is the hardest path, and I chose it because it proves my commitment is superior. Every ounce of muscle is honest, clean work. What truly sets me apart is that I am original. The whole package, the AmpMuscle brand, the IFBB Pro title, the successful AMGA Fit clothing line, the proven coaching ability, and the physical trophies represented by my car collection, is a unique blend of discipline and success that no one else can touch.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
You don’t get to my level as an IFBB Pro with the AmpMuscle brand and a garage full of proof by listening to feel-good fluff. You need a winning blueprint that tells you how to dominate in the gym, on the stage, and with symbols of success.
My resources aren’t about sitting around reading; they’re about execution and acquisition. You need to feed your mind what fuels the drive to stand above everyone else:
Mindset and Acquisition: Principles from books like “Think and Grow Rich” are mandatory. That core concept of turning desire into visible reality is how you get ahead. I applied that to my physique, and I apply it to the trophies I own. You want something? You get the blueprint, and you take it.
Mental Fortitude is Everything: I follow people who embody unshakeable mental toughness, like David Goggins. You have to learn how to silence the weakness and push past the pain. That’s how you get that edge, especially competing All-Natural. You either suffer or you succeed.
The Elite Performers: I watch the best in the game. Guys like Shedeur Sanders are focused on being elite, not average. That’s the only acceptable standard. I listen to people who are about high performance, high reward, and zero excuses.
Finally, I tell everyone to stop making excuses and get a good home workout app. You need the structure. You need the discipline. It proves you’re serious about the “Put in the Work” slogan. But here’s the reality: everything I do: the AMGA Fit line, the coaching, the brutal training, is designed to get a result that others can see. If you don’t have the trophies to show for the work, how is anyone supposed to know you’re actually winning? My cars are that external validation. They are the loud, visible proof that I dominate the process.
My entire journey, from the Iron Sanctuary to the IFBB Pro stage, is proof that commitment and the right mindset get results. I don’t just put in the work; I dominate the process, and I own the trophies that prove it.
