Today we’d like to introduce you to Liza Slaughter.
Hi Liza, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started performing at a very young age. I did competitive dance, nutcracker, and musical theater all throughout my childhood. I was always performing whether it was a makeshift play at home with my brother and sister or up on the stage as a balleriena or a singing hippie in out local theater my mom directed. You could say performing runs in my blood. The thread through all my interests on stage was I LOVED telling stories. The emoitons of the dance or musical were my favorite part. I remember my dance teachers telling the class, “Everyone needs to emote like Liza does.” I could always win at being the best story teller. I never reached the ranks I wanted to in dance, but I realized I loved dance because I got to tell stories. I then took my first tv/film acting class at S.T.A.G.E. in downtown Dallas. I was 16 and everyone else was at least 20 years older, which I thought was so cool. There my heart fell in love. I was enamoured with the craft of acting on camera. I knew this was my life purpose and passion. I then got an acting scholarship to OCU and then transferred to University of Texas at Austin. Then moved to LA! I have been a working actress ever since. My love for story telling grows everyday and my determination to be in the biggest films with the top stars is stronger than ever.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think every artist would agree, you choose a hard path being a creative. Its abnormal hours, alot of unpaid grunt work, and there is not clear path to the top. The road of a actor is bumpy, confusing, and filled with ups and downs. BUT every single year I learn, grow, and adapt to reach my goals. Nothing is worth doing if there isn’t a struggle before the reward.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an actress best known for my role as Brenna Dowell, the lead on Netflix drama feature ‘Full Out 2: You Got This!’. You will also remember me as the lead in Amazon Prime’s comedy feature ‘Pickleball Murders’.’ I am also super excited to share my new film playing a famous pop star as the lead in upcoming film ‘Love’s Perfect Song’ releasing soon! My specialties are historical/period dramas, action and adventure, and epic fantasies.
What makes you happy?
Making a list of goals and hitting them. A clean house with a lit candle and a fresh script. Being on set and nailing a scene. The smell of a bookstore. An almond milk vanilla Latte. A good workout. Travel. My niece and nephews. Family gatherings. Advice from my dad. Holiday decorations. Breakthroughs in therapy that expand my world view. The random calls from my mom and sister. Every single thing about my husband and our live together. I could go on and on but these all make me happy because they bring peace, hope, and love to different parts of my heart and life.
