Conversations with Demetri Sheffield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetri Sheffield.

Hi Demetri , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The way I got started. It’s from me being a sneaker collector. I used to be at all the local sneaker meet ups and sneaker cons and expose, I used to admire the photos that people would take of their shoes back in the days when it wishes mad bokah and people would put the low action figures that went with the shoe Collab like a space jam. Somebody would pick Bugs Bunny or something like that and sit next to the shoe or just an example. Fast forward I got tired of doing that and I got pretty known in the sneaker world as the guy who tucked the photos of everybody’s shoes and then from that I just went in the street Photography🎯 and from there it was history I went on to do a lot of things that I always told myself I would do, I’ve had two billboards in New York. I’ve done, countless festivals, etc. life-changing things that opened me up to different parts of the world and how I see things especially creatively with Photography.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it’s never really a smooth road especially being a freelance photographer but you have your moments and as long as you have good people around you those moments don’t really affect you as much because you got good people around you that are like-minded so they just keep you going so you don’t really sit and dwell in it. I mean, I’ve had times where I was all the way up and things were just flowing for months, but then I’ve had times where it got a low chaotic for some months when I just couldn’t get gigs then you really gotta figure it out and you learn a lot about yourself in those moments.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I don’t like just saying I’m a photographer. It just seems so vague so I call myself artist because at least with that I can expand in the more things I do instead of just telling somebody I’m just a photographer. The style of photography that I do it’s pretty well rounded but it’s based around street Photography, I’ve done concerts, festivals, e-commerce work, campaigns things like that. I used to do photography. I used to draw at a high level

What makes you happy?
I mean before I had my daughter what made me happy was Photography like everything could be going wrong work could be bad and I could be going through something with family once I pick my camera up and just go outside. I’m in my own bubble and I’ll be outside for hours just kind of in the zone and I get pure joy out of that I’ll stop and talk to random people asking if I could take a photo and sometimes you get a good conversation out of it. But now when I’m overwhelmed with photography or just stuck in a spot where I can’t really think of anything creatively I don’t force it. I just gotta sit back and hang out with my daughter and that helps me clear my mind of that fog that I had and didn’t even help me think of ideas.
