Community Highlights: Meet Duong Mai of Zelene Head Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Duong Mai.

Hi Duong, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2022, together with Loc and Sophia, we had an idea — to bring something truly unique to the U.S. wellness scene. At first, we didn’t even think about scalp care. We simply wanted to create a space where people could relax, unwind, and feel cared for — a calm place that helps you breathe again.

As we explored deeper into relaxation and wellness, we discovered the concept of head spa — a practice deeply rooted in Japan that focuses on scalp health, circulation, and mental clarity. We realized this could be something new and meaningful for people in the U.S., where stress and burnout are so common. That’s how the idea of creating a new category w in wellness — head spa — was born.

We started with our first brand, Hera Head Spa, and the response was overwhelming. People didn’t just come for scalp treatments — they came for peace, healing, and reconnection. From there, our vision evolved into Zelene Head Spa, a name that represents growth, renewal, and nature.

In 2023, we opened our first Zelene location, followed by two more in 2024. In 2025, we opened two additional locations, with a third opening in November 2025. As of now, we have 6 locations opened in just 2 years !

Today, Zelene Head Spa stands as America’s first scalp-centered wellness brand, blending Eastern healing traditions with modern self-care. We’ve been featured on NBC Texas Today, D Magazine, and Dallas Observer — but more than the recognition, what we’re proudest of is helping people slow down and heal from within. Because at Zelene, luxury begins at the root. 🌿

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not — but I don’t think it was meant to be smooth. When you’re creating something completely new, there’s no map to follow. In the beginning, the biggest challenge was education and awareness. No one really knew what a “head spa” was, so we had to start from zero — explaining the concept, building trust, and helping people understand that scalp care is connected to overall wellness.

There were also operational and staffing challenges. Finding and training the right people who truly understand the purpose behind what we do — not just technique, but heart — took time. Every new location came with lessons in consistency, leadership, and maintaining the same standard of care.

And of course, there were moments of doubt — times when growth felt overwhelming, or when others didn’t yet see what we saw. But looking back, those challenges shaped us. They made us stronger, more intentional, and more united in our mission to build a wellness brand that truly heals from the root. 🌿

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Zelene Head Spa?
Zelene Head Spa is more than a spa — it’s a new category in wellness. We specialize in scalp-centered care, combining Eastern healing traditions with modern techniques to help people heal from the root — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Our services focus on scalp detox, tension relief, and deep relaxation through customized head spa rituals. Every detail — from our Halo water system to our scalp analysis, aromatherapy, and touch techniques — is designed to restore balance and bring calm to both body and mind.

What sets us apart is that we’re not just offering treatments; we’re redefining self-care. When we opened, head spa was almost unheard of in the U.S. Today, Zelene is proud to be recognized as America’s first scalp-centered wellness brand — with six locations open, and more on the way.

We’ve been featured on NBC Texas Today, D Magazine, and the Dallas Observer, but what makes us most proud isn’t the media — it’s our community. Seeing people leave lighter, calmer, and truly cared for reminds us why we started.

At Zelene, luxury isn’t about excess — it’s about intention. It’s about slowing down, reconnecting with yourself, and realizing that true beauty — and true healing — begins at the root. 🌿

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this journey, it’s that you don’t have to wait for the perfect moment to start — you create it. When we began, there was no blueprint for what we were doing. We simply believed that something beautiful could grow from care, passion, and purpose.

To anyone reading this — whether you’re an entrepreneur, a dreamer, or someone looking to find balance — remember that every great idea begins with intention. Stay consistent, stay grounded, and don’t be afraid to take the road less traveled.

At Zelene, our mission will always be simple: to help people slow down, reconnect, and heal from within. We’re grateful for everyone who has supported this journey and believed in our vision from the very beginning. The best is still ahead. 🌿
