Exploring Life & Business with Justin Farrell of Rooster General Contractors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Farrell.

Justin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Rooster General Contractors started with a simple introduction between two people who shared a vision for building something meaningful. John Ratley and Justin Farrell met through a mutual friend, originally teaming up to create a faith-based app for community groups. But along the way, their focus shifted back to something much more tangible — construction.

John’s background is deeply rooted in the trades. He began his career on the East Coast hanging drywall, mudding, and taping, determined to learn every trade he could. That hands-on experience — from the field to running his own GC business — shaped his philosophy for delivering quality work built on trust. After moving back to the Dallas–Fort Worth area, he brought his skills to large government contracting projects, rounding out his expertise from small-scale craftsmanship to large-scale execution.

Justin, a Dallas native and Texas Tech graduate with a B.F.A. in Communication Design, comes from a creative and business background. Before graduation, he landed at a Dallas advertising agency, where he built his reputation as an award-winning designer. In 2016, he founded his own marketing agency, refining his skills in business development, brand strategy, and client experience.

Together, John and Justin launched Rooster General Contractors with one goal — to give customers a better construction experience. What began with small home repair jobs quickly evolved into full-scale remodels and additions. Each project, from bathroom renovations to church remodels, has helped refine Rooster’s process and reputation.

Today, Rooster specializes in residential remodels, home additions, and commercial tenant improvement projects across DFW. The team takes pride in helping homeowners reimagine their spaces and assisting businesses and nonprofits — especially churches — in creating environments that serve their communities.

At Rooster, every project is an opportunity to build trust, deliver craftsmanship, and keep raising the bar for what a general contractor can be.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. Anyone who’s ever run a business knows there are always bumps along the way — there are very few unicorns out there. In construction especially, every project is filled with details, moving parts, and personalities. Early on, we learned that assumptions can quickly turn into misunderstandings or delays if communication isn’t crystal clear.

Those experiences taught us valuable lessons that helped shape Rooster into what it is today — a design + build firm focused on transparency and collaboration. We’ve built our process around walking customers through every step of pre-construction, ensuring expectations are aligned before any work begins. It’s a system born from challenges, but one that now defines our strength: clarity, accountability, and craftsmanship from start to finish.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Rooster General Contractors is a Dallas–Fort Worth–based design + build firm specializing in residential remodels, home additions, and commercial tenant improvement projects. Our mission is simple — to deliver a better construction experience through communication, craftsmanship, and care.

We’re known for taking the stress out of remodeling. From initial design concepts to the final walkthrough, our team manages every phase of the process in-house. That means fewer surprises, faster timelines, and a level of accountability that homeowners and business owners genuinely appreciate.

What sets Rooster apart is our blend of creativity and construction expertise. We don’t just build — we help clients visualize what’s possible, make informed decisions, and enjoy the process along the way. We’ve intentionally built a brand that feels approachable, honest, and grounded in integrity — not just another contractor logo on a truck.

We’re especially proud of how our brand has become synonymous with trust. Whether we’re renovating a family’s home, building out a local business, or restoring a historic church, our goal is always the same: to create lasting value and positive experiences.

At the end of the day, Rooster isn’t just about what we build — it’s about the relationships we build while doing it.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
