Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendelene Turner.
Hi Wendelene, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started out with a desire to do something in healthcare as a child. All the way up until my junior year in college I just knew I wanted to be a physical therapist. I had the amazing opportunity to attend a summer program at Baylor college of dentistry in Dallas and fell in love with the field of dentistry. Fast forward. Life happened. I survived a horrifically abuse relationship and had a beautiful daughter all while finishing dental school by the grace of God! God gave me the strength and the fortitude to decide that my life was not done with and He had greater plans for me. I graduated dental school in 2011 and went on to build out and open my own practice in 2014. Things have not always been easy in business but I am committed to my patients that I have grown to love like family and I look forward to continuing to love and serve them for years to come!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Things have not always been smooth. I opened my office in July of 2014 with zero patients on my books. In dental school we are exceptionally trained clinicians with little to no business training. So everything I’ve learned about business is through self study and trial and error. I’ve overcome challenges with employees, and my building, and even some patients. However, I don’t love who I serve or what I do any less than I did the day I opened my doors.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Turner Family Dental?
My practice has been open over 11 years now. We are a general dental practice but are known for offering beautiful and cost effective cosmetic dentistry to the local community. I am most proud of how welcome most of our patients feel once they have become a part of our dental family. Once you choose us as your dental provider you are truly part of our family. We celebrate with you! We cry with you. Oh and we offer you excellent dental care! lol. I often find myself kicking back with my patients during their visit and spending more time sharing life stories than we do discussing dentistry! That is what is most fulfilling for me! Building connections with people so I can provide care lovingly is what I’ve always envisioned as a practice owner.
