Dawood Tafsir shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Dawood, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Directing comedy specials. Recently I have had the amazing opportunity to become a director of many comedy specials, and to build my name behind the scenes more than ever.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dawood Tafsir, and I’m the founder of Triple Take Media, a Dallas-based creative production company specializing in storytelling that bridges humor, culture, and authenticity. I work with comedians, brands, and entrepreneurs to produce cinematic podcasts, social media content, and marketing campaigns that don’t just capture attention — they build real connection.
What makes my work unique is the fusion of high-level production with genuine storytelling. Whether it’s a brand commercial, a podcast, or a documentary-style piece, I’m focused on emotion, timing, and truth — creating content that feels human.
My journey started behind the camera, experimenting with short films and social media content, and evolved into producing for top comedians and local businesses across Dallas–Fort Worth. Today, I’m building Triple Take Media into a full-scale creative hub that empowers voices often left out of mainstream media, while maintaining a sharp, modern visual edge.
Right now, I’m working on several comedy specials, brand campaigns, and a few new podcast projects that explore identity, culture, and creativity — all with that same goal: to make people feel something real.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The death of my father, Nauman Tafsir, completely changed the way I look at life. He was a businessman who lived the contractor’s life — always independent, always finding his own way. I didn’t realize it while he was alive, but so much of my drive to be a freelancer and create my own path comes from him.
When he passed away, it hit me that he had lived his life — his journey, his story — and that it was now time for me to begin mine. That realization grounded me. It taught me that life isn’t about waiting for the perfect moment; it’s about stepping forward and building something meaningful while you still can.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, I never gave up — and I think that’s what’s made me both well-rounded and deeply specialized in what I do. When COVID hit, everything slowed down for most people, but that’s when I started filming for comedians for free, just to get my foot in the door.
That decision changed everything. The opportunities to get paid came faster than I expected, and it opened doors to some of the best relationships and most rewarding years of my life. I’ve been able to travel all over the U.S. and work with incredible comedians like Ralph Barbosa, Morgan Jay, Sam Morril, T.J. Miller, Gary Owen, and many others at the top of their game.
It taught me that if you keep showing up and doing good work — even when no one’s watching — the right people eventually will come by your life.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe in the existence of God — and while I can’t fully prove it, I think there’s limited logic that points to it. I grew up with faith, but over time I’ve seen patterns in my own life that feel beyond coincidence. Every time I’ve gotten closer to God — through intention, gratitude, or prayer — I’ve found more success, clarity, and inner peace.
To me, that consistency is its own kind of proof.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m creating — whether I’m behind the camera, editing, or building something from scratch. There’s a calm that comes from being fully locked in on what I love.
But I also find peace in faith and solitude — in prayer, reflection, or just moments of stillness after long days of work. It’s in those moments I feel aligned, like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
