Story & Lesson Highlights with TREY LAWRENCE of The Colony/Lewisville

TREY LAWRENCE shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

TREY, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
So listening to Music Daily if just for a little while helps me find myself again and just completely decompress and Detach from everything. Especially if Im DJng just finding new Songs to mashup or combine beats too.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
So Im a Upcoming Dallas Recording Artist, Graphic Designer, Producer and DJ.
I started Producing first as Ive ALWAYS Had a Love for Beats and very selective when it comes to my production.
Afterwards I started rapping over instrumentals that I was interested in just Cause I had so much to say and still do.
Skills Im sharpening are Graphic Design as I make all my Own Cover Art/Logos as well as commissions for other artists. Always improving my Lyrical ability and pen. and currently working on the 2nd Chop and Screwed collaboration with Dallas native artist Pat-Ron.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Had a Best Friend ” Essence” at the time before and after we dated who Knew me prob better than I knew myself. and definitely slightly more than everyone else. I cherish people who Observe me close enough to know when I may or may not be in Character.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Probably during my first Legal encounter where I was arrested for DUI in 2017. I instantly wrote an entire song about it Used the Mugshot as the Cover Art and incorporated Storytelling into the 2nd Verse. the track is called 08.27.16 (The Heart). Ive always been pretty open and transparent about any Setbacks Or storms I may be facing because I know it can be helpful and inspiring to others.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Well First My Relationship with God and my Religion, I post scriptures every now and then and Active in Multiple churches… 2nd My Family I cherish my family and the love / time we spend together. .and third My Music/Music Career. It’s def another thing I don’t Joke around about. I’m highly professional and the passion I have for it and the Culture radiates off me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think people will mostly misunderstand the Effort hours, work and relationships Ive built along the way to be able to get to the level I’m at even Now. Once My exposure increases to a household name itll look as if it happened overnight. but of course, everything was planned and prayed for Since Graduating H.S.
