Story & Lesson Highlights with Daryl Mayfield Jr. of Dallas

We recently had the chance to connect with Daryl Mayfield Jr. and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Daryl, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I wake up around 3:00am to record audiobooks or audition for new voiceover opportunities. I stop around 6:00am to help my wife get our 3 kids ready for school.

I leave at 8:00am to work my full time day job as and electrical engineer, depending on crunchyroll’s schedule, I’ll go in any time of the day to record for an anime

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Dallas based voice actor working in audiobooks, video games, and anime. I started performing at the age of 10 serving as the master of ceremonies for church productions, and being in multiple plays. I love the arts and being able to entertain people with my own brand of humor and insight into the world.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Most definitely my parents. They saw my potential for not just acting, but for public speaking, and my passion for science and engineering. They always created opportunities and pushed me to excel in that potential (even when I didn’t want to)

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I always fear never covering all my bases before starting a new stage in my business, and life decisions in general. Sometimes, I have to get over my analysis paralysis, and just “do the thing”

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My wife!

I love and admire how she never compromises her principles in the face of adversity, especially when helping others. Sometimes I jokingly make fun of her for being “to considerate”, but she truly is my sounding board to make sure I’m making the right decision: not just for myself, but for others as well

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will remember me for bringing a little to their day. I want to make sure how I perform, parent, work, and generally interact with people is a benefit.
