Monica Gomez of Sherman, TX on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Monica Gomez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Monica, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something that’s been bringing me so much joy lately is building my own home with my husband. It’s been a dream of ours for a long time, and seeing it come to life is truly special. Every decision, from the floor plan to the finishes, feels like a labor of love. It’s not just about creating a space to live; it’s about building a life together. The process has its challenges, but the excitement and anticipation make it all worth it. Can’t wait to see the finished product and make memories in our new home! 🏠❤️

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Of course! My name is Monica but everyone calls me Mony. I’m a bilingual portrait photographer born and raised in Mexico. My passion for photography started as a hobby, but it quickly turned into a career when people began asking me to capture their special moments and generously compensated me for my work. I specialize in photographing couples, seniors, weddings, birthdays, families, and more. What I love about photography is the opportunity to connect with people and preserve their memories.

I’m excited to share that I’m currently working on bringing my dream to life, creating a photography studio in Calera, Oklahoma, that will be available for rent to other photographers. This studio will not only be a creative space for me but also a hub for photographers to come together and create beautiful work.

I’m grateful for the journey that has led me to where I am today, and I give all the glory to God. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow and share my passion for photography with others.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
God saw me clearly before I could see myself. He had a plan for me to use my talents to serve Him through photography, and I’m grateful for His guidance and purpose in my life. My parents also played a significant role in helping me discover my passion for photography. They supported me from the beginning and even got me my first camera, encouraging me to pursue my interests. I’m thankful for their love and support, and I’m grateful for God’s sovereignty in my life.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Honestly, I’d say being an introvert in a super social job like photography can be a real challenge for me! I mean, I’m great at getting people to relax in front of the camera, but ask me to network at a party? 😅 That’s a whole different story! However, I’ve been super lucky to work with amazing clients who make it easy for me to shine (and forget I’m an introvert!). They’ve become more like friends, and their energy is infectious! So, while being an introvert can be tough at times, it’s been totally worth it to work with such wonderful people who bring out the best in me.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
For me, the truth that’s most foundational is my faith in God. While I often share my gratitude and reliance on Him with others, I want to take this opportunity to declare it to everyone: God has been my rock, my foundation, and my Savior. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I owe every success, every milestone, and every blessing in my life to Him. Without His guidance, love, and redemption, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m grateful for the journey of faith that has shaped me, and I’m eager to continue sharing His goodness with others.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What light inside you have you been dimming?
Mmm, I’d say my creativity! Between juggling photography and another job, it’s easy to get stuck in a routine. But I’ve been feeling the itch to inject more creativity into my photography experimenting with new styles, trying out fresh ideas, and pushing myself to see things from different perspectives. I’m making it a priority to tap back into that creative spark and let it shine through my lens. Can’t wait to see where this creative journey takes me! 📸✨
