Hi Cynthia, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
What makes me lose track of time and find myself again is music. Music is my soulmate. I love how the rhythms move through my body and the emotions that wash over me when I listen. The lyrics of songs resonate deeply with me, brightening my day and providing comfort and inspiration. Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
The most significant lesson about work came from my parents, who moved from Ghana, West Africa, to the United States. Watching them build their lives from the ground up instilled in me and my siblings a profound understanding of the value of hard work and an unmatched work ethic. Their relentless dedication to achieving their dreams has shaped my approach to business and everything I do.
My mother often said in our native language, “Ma me Mia mane na nyƐɛ” “Let me close my eyes and do it,” which encouraged me to push myself towards greatness. This mantra resonates with me, much like Nike’s slogan, “Just do it.” It reminds me to take action and strive for my goals without hesitation.
I apply these lessons to every aspect of my life. My work ethic is unparalleled, and my commitment to setting and achieving goals is top-tier. I truly believe in myself, and this mindset has been a driving force behind my success. With the foundation my parents laid, I continue to pursue my ambitions with the same determination and resilience they exemplified.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are enough just as you are
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me aligns with the real me. There’s a genuine synergy between my personal brand and my business brand, which allows me to connect with people on a deeper level. My business was built around my passion areas, so I truly embody what I represent. This authenticity shines through in everything I do, from how I conduct my business to how I engage with others. I believe that being true to myself not only enhances my effectiveness as a leader but also fosters meaningful relationships with those I serve.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
What I would regret not doing is failing to seize every moment to push my passions and my business forward. I always tell my pageant beauties—my contestants and models that I train—that there are only 24 hours in a day, and every second counts. If you’re truly passionate about advancing your business or any project, you must take action, no matter how big or small. Each step, each effort contributes to your overall progress. I believe that the fear of not making the most of my time and opportunities drives me to consistently strive for growth and success. I want to look back and know that I made the most of every moment.
