Alondra Lara of Downtown Fort Worth on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Alondra Lara. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Alondra, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Honestly, what’s been bringing me the most joy lately is slowing down and doing things that make me feel grounded, going to Pilates, spending time with my two little dogs, Toby and Snoopy, hanging out with friends, spending quality time with my husband, and diving into a good book or audiobook. My life is usually pretty go-go-go between my full-time job and running my cookie business, so those small moments of calm mean everything. I’ve also been finding a lot of joy in creating again, testing new cookie designs, planning classes, and connecting with people in my community through my events. It’s a good reminder of why I started Aly’s Sweet Spot in the first place, it’s creative, it’s personal, and it makes people happy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Alondra, but most people know me as Aly, the owner and baker behind Aly’s Sweet Spot in Fort Worth, Texas. I started this business almost six years ago as a creative outlet, and it’s grown into something that connects me with so many amazing people and local businesses.

By day, I work full-time in architecture administration, and by night (and weekends!) I’m decorating cookies, planning classes, or dreaming up new ideas for my brand. What makes Aly’s Sweet Spot special is how personal it feels, every cookie, class, and event is made with intention, creativity, and a genuine love for making people smile. I also get to be part of peoples special celebrations.

Right now, I’m working on my holiday pre-sales and upcoming cookie decorating classes, and I’m also expanding beyond sugar cookies to bring in more fun products for my customers. It’s such an exciting time, I love watching this little passion project continue to grow and evolve.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Definitely my mom. She’s always been the one to see my potential long before I did. From the very beginning, she’s believed I could do it all, even when I doubted myself. She’s encouraged me through every season, whether I was balancing school, work, or building my cookie business from scratch. Her support has always been steady and genuine, and she’s one of the reasons I’ve had the confidence to chase my ideas and turn them into something real.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think the fear that’s held me back the most has been the fear of failing and honestly, the fear of change. I really hate feeling uncomfortable or out of my element, so sometimes I overthink things before taking the leap. For a long time, I equated failure with embarrassment instead of growth, and that mindset definitely slowed me down at times. But the older I get, the more I realize that every uncomfortable season has led to something better, new opportunities, more confidence, and a stronger sense of who I am.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
My closest friends would probably say that what matters most to me is being a nurturing person and taking care of the people I love. I really value my relationships with my family, my friends, and my husband and I put a lot of effort into making sure the people around me feel supported and appreciated. I think that same part of me shows up in my business too, I love creating things that make people feel special and cared for.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I lived a life filled with purpose, creativity, and heart. That I was someone who always put love into everything I did, whether it was baking cookies, supporting my friends and family, or finding ways to bring people together. I want to be remembered as someone who followed her passions, worked hard for her dreams, and made others feel seen, appreciated, and inspired to chase their own.
