An Inspired Chat with Melissa Dieterich of Fort Worth

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Melissa Dieterich. Check out our conversation below.

Melissa, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think the most thing misunderstood thing about being a photographer is thinking all we do is point the camera and click. There’s definitely a lot more to it than that. Especially being a maternity and newborn photographer. I’ve spent many hours learning how to pose both moms to be and newborn babies. That is flattering and safe. You definitely need lots of patience as well working with babies and families. I’m often thanked for my patience at every type of photoshoot.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Melissa. I’m a maternity and newborn photographer. For over 17 years, I’ve been honored to capture the most meaningful moments in the lives of growing families — from glowing mamas-to-be to brand new babies.

My maternity & newborn photography studio is a warm, cozy space filled with everything you need for a beautiful session — soft props, sweet baby accessories, and a curated wardrobe of gowns and outfits for moms and little ones.

More than just photos, I aim to preserve the love, connection, and quiet magic of this special season in your life.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe that I would never succeed. I dropped out of High school and didn’t really know what to do. But now that I’ve successfully run my own business for 17 years, I no longer believe that.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There’s been a few time’s I almost gave up. And truthfully I still think about it now. But I stuck with it than and I’m sticking with it now and just really hoping things turn around. Because I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I believe my closest friends would say my family matters most to me. I love being a mom and raising my 2 sons. Making sure my family is happy is the most important thing.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not taking time off work to make all the memories with my family I possibly can.
