Trish Hill shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Trish, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I am currently pursuing a Degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting. If I were to stop college now, I would never be able to achieve that goal.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is La’Tricia “Trish” Hill, and my brand is #IAMTRISHHILL. I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 22 years and the proud owner of Salon N’Vious for 16 of those years. I currently hold licenses in both Texas and Louisiana.
Throughout my 22-year journey in the Beauty Industry, I’ve built a career rooted in creativity, leadership, and empowerment. I founded the “It’s Beyond Hair” T-shirt line and created “A Night for the Stars,” an annual awards gala celebrating beauty professionals, which was successfully hosted in Dallas, Texas, for 10 years. I also served as Director of the Texas International Hair Show.
As an author, I’ve written two books — Getting Started 101: What’s My Next Step and Getting Started 101: Affirmations — both available on Amazon. These books are designed to help individuals in the Beauty Industry discover and take their NEXT step toward success.
I’m also the host of “The Trish Hill Show,” a platform that shines a spotlight on inspiring individuals in the Beauty, Fashion, and Entertainment industries. The show can be viewed across all major social media platforms.
In 2015, I launched The Trish Hill Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to “Make Cancer Survivors Feel Beautiful.”
After relocating to Louisiana in 2019 and navigating the challenges of COVID-19 in 2020, life and business shifted dramatically. I made the difficult decision to close my Dallas salon but continued serving clients in Louisiana. Embracing change, I expanded my entrepreneurial journey into the food industry, opening Rayes, a small family-owned restaurant.
Despite the transitions, my passion for the Beauty Industry remains stronger than ever. I continue to mentor students, serve as a board member for the Irving Independent School District Cosmetology Department, and advocate for professional growth within the industry.
If there’s one message I’d like to leave you with, it’s this:
“Never stop being a student — always remain teachable.”
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The earliest moment that made me feel truly powerful was when I opened my first salon in Garland, Texas, at just 25 years old. I can still hear my mom asking, “How are you going to do this?” The building was in terrible shape and needed a complete transformation. It was so bad that the owner gave me a few months of free rent just to fix it up.
At the time, the deposit was $1,500 — I had $750 in a money order and wrote a hot check for the other half. But by the grace of God, when that check cleared, the money was there! That moment summed up who I was — a hustler with unshakable faith.
Today, I can proudly say that Salon N’Vious is still thriving, and after surviving those early years of struggle and sacrifice, I discovered what true power feels like.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were so many times I wanted to walk away. Times when I questioned if it was all worth it. But the truth is — the Beauty Industry is my bread and butter, my heart, and my home. I’ve worked in many different places, but nothing compares to the feeling of being behind the chair, doing what I love, and changing lives one client at a time.
When I hear someone say, “I’m ready to quit,” I smile and remind them:
“You will only get out of this industry what you’re willing to put into it.”
This journey isn’t for the faint of heart — it’s for those with faith, focus, and fight. There will be long days, tough seasons, and moments that test your strength. But if you keep showing up, stay teachable, and keep believing, your next level will meet you right where your effort and faith collide.
Keep pushing. Keep growing. You’re closer than you think.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I am me — all day, every day, and on every platform. I represent #IAMTRISHHILL proudly, boldly, and respectfully. Authenticity isn’t something I turn on and off — it’s who I am, everywhere I go.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
Absolutely! I’m not retired just yet — but when I closed my Dallas location in 2020, it was truly the end of an era. To this day, some of my Dallas clients (and yes, I still call them clients because of the bond we share) reach out to tell me how much they miss me and wish I’d come back to do their hair.
There may be plenty of other stylists out there, but nothing compares to the connection, trust, and genuine relationship we built over the years. That’s something special — something that goes far beyond the chair.
