Exploring Life & Business with Rebecca Townsend of Townsend Realty of Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Townsend.

Hi Rebecca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my first business at 11 years old due to my parent’s struggling financially and an abusive home environment. I eventually became the first person in my family to graduate college. My background is a BBA with a concentration in Marketing, a Master of Science in Marketing Research and later an alternative certification program to get my 6th – 12th Teacher Certification teaching math or business. I essentially went for my masters to teach as I found out during my bachelor’s degree how much I enjoyed teaching.

I started my career in March of 2019. In early 2018, I heard the voice of God tell me to get my real estate license. I actually argued with God because I thought I was too busy teaching to get my license. In December of 2018, I heard His voice the third time telling me to get my license so that I could help, guide and serve people with excellence, integrity and honesty- focusing on their needs and building relationships not focused on money. I called Champions Real Estate School and was in a classroom the next Monday. I passed the exam the first time in March of 2019. My husband and I designed our logo after God gave us “Lighting Your Path Home”. In all we do, we want to help others with a spirit of excellence.

I was a dual career agent with Keller Williams for 3 years and finally gave my notice in June of 2022 to end my 24+ years of teaching career and go full-time in Real Estate. In my 4th year, I applied to be a Broker and passed the test the first time in September of 2023. I decided to go out on my own in April of this year (2025). We are a family owned and run business– my mom is my unlicensed assistant, my husband does most of my photography, video production, and website, and my son just joined the brokerage as an agent and will also be doing photography, drone and marketing research. I also contract out a local social media admin and transaction coordinator.

I still teach, but now it is focused on helping educate buyers, sellers and even coaching other agents. I believe I have been successful by working hard, never giving up, always treating others the way I would want to be treated, gently walking my client’s through the process–really answering their questions and helping educate them along the way, and remaining lifelong friends after the process. Most of my business is referrals from my past clients, my family or my friends.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t believe real estate could be described as a smooth road…in every transaction there are twists, turns, highs and lows. The struggle to balance family and work is real and since every transaction is different and unique, you have to be prepared with an arsenal of strategies and ideas. The first time one of my clients was told they couldn’t qualify for a home they absolutely fell in love with, I struggled. I knew my client’s situation and I knew the lender. I called and brainstormed with the lender until one of my ideas seemed like it would work. The lender went forward and the family got their dream home! All glory to God for giving me ideas and strategies! My husband says I turn no’s into yes’s.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My favorite part of being a realtor (broker) is helping each person achieve their goals and start their journey. Whether to buy, sell, invest, or build, I like helping them through the process and finding ways to make the process easier, smoother. I am still a teacher at heart…I just teach adults now in all things real estate. I especially enjoy helping those who have been told ‘no’ to their dream and with God’s help, finding the YES! Whether it is a teacher, veteran or other hero who did not know they have access to down payment and/or closing cost assistance, a disabled veteran that did not realize they get a discount on property taxes or a self employed individual that needs to get qualified based on bank statements, I absolutely love when I can help them achieve their dreams.

What sets me apart from others? I believe having an MS in marketing research, a background in marketing, and knowing how to break down the home buying and selling process into small sections is unique along with actually answering my phone, email and text messages lol. Truly focusing on people’s needs and caring more about creating lifelong friends rather than just getting clients or sales, is also unique. Following God’s law above all else- treating others the way I would want to be treated—giving every client a 5-star experience through excellence- making them feel like they are my only client! Last, I come from a military family. My Dad was Military Police in the Army, My husband and Father-n-law served in the Air Force. My brother served in the Navy. My uncle served in the Marines. My nephew is currently serving in the Navy. I have all the branches covered and am the wife of an Air Force Veteran so I have a heart for veterans, teachers, and those who serve our communities and country like nurses, doctors, police and fireman.

What I am most proud of brand wise/What do we want readers to know about our brand, offerings and services? I am most proud that we treat each client as if they are family with a spirit of excellence. Our clients tell us all the time that we go above and beyond and they always feel like they are our only client. I am proud that our brand is based on the Bible with Psalm 119:105, “Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a Light to my path,” and we use the Bible as our plumbline on how we treat others.

We serve the entire DFW and surrounding areas. We offer residential and light commercial. We specialize in new construction, first-time homebuyers, Veterans and other local hero’s, and Farm and Ranch.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is modeling God’s love to everyone I meet and hearing when I die, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” My definition has changed over my life. In the beginning of my life, I thought if I worked hard enough, did everything perfectly and made lots of money, that was success. Now, success is more centered around fulfilling the purpose God has designed and created me for. Success in real estate is knowing that I put my clients needs first, making them feel like they are my only clients and meeting their needs, and turning those clients in to lifelong friends in the process.
