Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri Jacob.
Hi Sherri, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After we had moved back to DFW in 2019 I wanted to get involved in helping women that had been rescued from trafficking. I started in on some training to be a mentor through an organization called Alive At Last. In 2020, just as I was starting, Covid hit and training fell by the wayside, however at the same time I reconnected with a friend in Chicago that was working with a similar organization there that also ran a bridal boutique to help raise funds needed by their organization. I decided that maybe we could do the same thing in DFW and that perhaps I could be more helpful in raising funds needed by organizations on the frontlines rescuing women from trafficking, than being a mentor.
We created a separate 501c3 organization, Alisa Joy Foundation, doing business as Alisa Joy Bridal Boutique. Alisa Joy Bridal Boutique receives dresses donated by “for profit” boutiques from around the country and sells them at 50%-80% off. We operate by appointment only and have a group of amazing volunteer bridal consultants to work with our brides. All of our profits are donated to three organizations: Alive At Last, GloryB, and Refuge City.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The initial challenge was finding the right location and then waiting patiently for construction to be completed. We opened our doors on November 11, 2023.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My degree in clothing and textiles, coupled with a business minor has proven more valuable in this phase of my life. As I run the nonprofit bridal boutique, I find myself utilizing my knowledge of fabrics, styles, and designers to effectively communicate with brides during their bridal fittings. This practical application of my past learning has become increasingly helpful.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is helping brides find their dream dress and making sure they’re super happy on their special day. When brides buy a dress from us, they not only save money, but also support 3 amazing organizations that help women rescued from trafficking.
