Community Highlights: Meet Amy Power of The Power Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Power.

Hi Amy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story begins long before the agency you see today. After graduating from Mary Baldwin College, I entered the communications world with a desire to tell stories that mattered and I quickly realized that PR wasn’t just about press releases and media hits; it was about helping brands define purpose, build trust and stand out. Over the last 26 years, I’ve been fortunate to build a career that reflects exactly that.

I started out working within established companies like Ketchum and Tracy-Locke, learning by doing: what works, what doesn’t, and how reputations are made (and sometimes lost). From those early assignments, it became clear to me that I wanted more than a role; I wanted to build something of my own. That led to founding The Power Group in 1999 and for more than two decades, we have grown steadily, serving national brands, entrepreneurial ventures and everything in between. We’ve developed deep experience across industries including food and beverage, franchising, CPG, commercial real estate, and meaningful nonprofit work.

What I’m most proud of is the team behind the scenes. At The Power Group, we’ve built a culture anchored in three core values: Do the right thing. Win together. Create connection and joy. I believe that success doesn’t happen in a vacuum; it’s created as a team. Every member of our client family, every campaign, every crisis we’ve navigated has been a collective effort. I’m grateful to the talented businesswomen who show up each day ready to solve problems, elevate brands and deliver results.

My path hasn’t been a straight line. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced uncertainty, risk and moments of “will this work?” What kept me going was a mindset of always learning, adapting and never losing sight of my personal mission: to create businesswomen. When we were tested through shifts in technology, economic upsets or major crises like the pandemic, I learned that resilience and culture win over time.

Today, The Power Group stands strong. With a full service offering spanning media relations, crisis communications, influencer strategy, content and more, we help clients navigate complexity and define clarity. The evolution has been both strategic and intentional.

In reflection, the journey has been as meaningful as the milestones. I started with a vision, a newborn son at my side and no certainty. I now get to lead a company of powerful businesswomen with more than two decades of traction, and a portfolio of trusted clients. And while I’m proud of how far we’ve come, I remain excited about what’s ahead. AI, new challenges, new opportunities and continuing to build value for our clients and our Power Group team.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road. Anyone who tells you otherwise probably hasn’t been on the journey long enough. My favorite quote, from Robert Frost’s poem The Road Not Taken, is: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I … I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” That line has always resonated with me because starting and growing The Power Group was never about following a well-paved path, it was about forging one of my own.
In the beginning, it was incredibly lonely. I went from working within structured teams to building something from scratch. There were no blueprints, no safety nets, just vision and grit. I had to learn everything the hard way: how to price services, how to manage cash flow, how to hire and fire, how to bounce back when something didn’t go as planned. There were moments of fear, moments of doubt, and moments when it would have been easier to quit. But what kept me going was the belief in what I was building and the people I was building it for.

Thankfully, I built my business in Dallas, a city that has been incredibly supportive, especially of women in business. The community here is generous, collaborative and filled with leaders who are willing to mentor, support and share their experiences. That support system has made all the difference.
One of the most transformative decisions I made along the way was joining Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO). Being part of EO, and now a past-president of the Dallas chapter, gave me more than just tools and education; it gave me a tribe. People who understood the highs and lows of running a business, people who didn’t sugarcoat the hard stuff but helped me work through it. The peer-to-peer connection and vulnerability in that space helped me become a better leader, a more strategic thinker and a more grounded person. When you’re surrounded by others who are also on the road less traveled, you start to feel a lot less alone.
Another unexpected but beautiful part of the journey has been the relationships I’ve built with clients. Many of them have become trusted advisors and true friends. When you work closely with a company to build their brand, manage their reputation, or navigate a crisis, deep trust forms. These relationships have sustained me in hard times and made the wins even more meaningful.

Every bump in the road has taught me something valuable, about perseverance, humility, trust and the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. The struggles never fully go away; they just evolve. But so does your capacity to handle them. You get stronger, wiser and more resilient. And eventually, you look back and realize that the road, however rocky, is what shaped you most.
I wouldn’t trade the journey for anything. It hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s been real, rewarding and full of purpose. And I still feel like the best chapters are yet to come.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Power Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Power Group is a Dallas-based public relations and crisis management firm that partners with brands to help them be known, be heard, and be understood. We’ve been in business for 26 years, and over that time, we’ve earned a reputation for being responsive, tenacious, values-driven, and results-oriented. Our team serves clients across the U.S. and internationally, and while we’re headquartered in Texas, our reach and impact go far beyond it.

We specialize in media relations, crisis communications, influencer strategy, thought leadership, and content development. Whether we’re securing local, trade or top-tier national media placements, guiding a client through a sensitive issue, or building long-term brand credibility, everything we do is rooted in what’s the right thing to do for the client. We don’t believe in PR for PR’s sake; our work is designed to drive real business outcomes, and that’s one of the reasons our clients stay with us for years, sometimes decades.

What sets us apart is our deep commitment to values, relationships, and responsiveness. We’re known for acting quickly and thoughtfully, especially when it matters most. In an industry where timing can be everything, clients count on us to be available, proactive, and on top of every detail. Internally, we live by three core values: Do the right thing. Win together. Create connection and joy. These aren’t just words on a wall; they guide how we treat one another, our clients, our partners, and our community. Externally, clients know they can count on us, not just to deliver, but to care deeply about their success. We integrate into their business as true partners, often serving as an extension of their executive or marketing teams.

We’re especially known for our excellence in crisis communications. Over the years, we’ve helped organizations prepare for and navigate crises ranging from reputation threats to product recalls to leadership transitions. We approach crisis work with calm, clarity, and confidence, and our experience gives clients peace of mind when the stakes are high. We also place a strong emphasis on thought leadership and helping executives build meaningful public platforms. We’ve helped clients get featured in outlets like Dallas Business Journal, Restaurant Business, Fortune, Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, and The Today Show, among many others.

Brand-wise, I’m incredibly proud of the reputation we’ve built, one that blends professionalism with heart. We’re known for our strong work ethic, but also for the positivity and joy we bring to our partnerships. We’ve created a culture and hybrid work environment where collaboration and innovation thrive, and where every voice is valued. That’s not easy to do in a fast-paced industry, and I consider it one of our greatest achievements.

Our brand is all about helping others shine. Whether you’re launching a product, managing a crisis, or scaling your company, we help you communicate with authenticity and impact. We take the time to understand each client’s goals, voice, and audience, and then we develop and execute strategies that move the needle.

For readers who are unfamiliar with us, I’d love for them to know that The Power Group is changing what a PR firm can and should be for its clients. We are trusted advisors, creative problem-solvers, and incredibly responsive partners. We care deeply about the brands we represent, and we’re relentless in our pursuit of results. Most of all, we love what we do, and it shows in every campaign, every call, and every connection we make.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I would love to see more dedicated green space and more trees. Make it more walkable. Klyde Warren Park was a genius move. I love the friendliness, the support system for entrepreneurs and of course, all the wonderful restaurants and overall quality of life.
