Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandy Hamilton.
Hi Mandy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Glitz Bakery started as J. Rae’s in 2008. The current owners, Mandy and Chris Hamilton, purchased the bakery in September of 2013. After owning the bakery for 7 years and slowly modifying the recipes and processes to make them their own, decided to refresh the brand by changing the name. The name Glitz Bakery was chosen because the Hamiltons felt it best describes the fun, bright, and sparkly products offered by the bakery. The name also aligns with the bakery’s mission statement: “Brightening your day one bite at a time.” In August of 2023, the Hamiltons moved the bakery to the current location.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business definitely has its highs and lows. The biggest struggle was making it through the lockdowns of 2020 and ensuring the health and safety of our staff and customers during this time. We had to make a temporary change to our business modeling by offering home deliveries after we closed each day. My son and I would load up our car with the orders taken than day and delivery them ourselves before heading home each evening. We did what we needed to do in order to survive and make it through that time of uncertainty.
Moving the bakery in 2023 was a stressful time. The build out of our new space was delayed by 2 months resulting in a very small window to transition from our old space to the new one. We were able to move with no down down and were also able to fulfill all orders taken during that period. There was also the risk we ran of losing customers due to the relocation. Ultimately, it turned out to be a great move!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Glitz Bakery is best known for our decorated sugar cookies! We also offer cheesecakes, cupcakes, comfort cookies, English toffee and peanut brittles. We just introduced our brownie cut-out cookie which is also a decorated cookie but in brownie form. In December, we offer gingerbread cookies and snickerdoodle cupcakes.
