Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristian Serra.
Hi Kristian, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in the Philippines and moved to Arlington, Texas at a young age. Growing up here, I never lost sight of my roots or the values my family taught me hard work, respect, and heart. I went on to earn my degree in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Arlington, where I discovered how powerful movement and discipline can be in shaping people’s lives. I continued to pursue my dreams and own my own gym.
Today, I own a boxing gym right here in Arlington Texas. What started as a dream turned into a space where young people can find direction, discipline, and purpose. For me, it’s never been just about boxing, it’s about keeping the youth and mainly trouble off the streets and showing them that with focus and heart, they can fight for a better future. A place where individuals can find an outlet is my goal.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were definitely some challenges growing up as a minority such as learning a new language, seeing new faces, and a whole new world when I first moved here. It was scary at first, but it also shaped who I am. I’ve always carried one goal with me: to make my parents proud and give back for the sacrifices they made to give me a better life here in Arlington, TX.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about THE GYM: COMBATIVE SPORTS & FITNESS?
My gym is all about more than just combat sports, it’s about building better people. We train fighters, yes, but our main focus is helping youth and young adults find direction through discipline, hard work, and community. I started this gym to give kids in Arlington a place to belong, stay off the streets, and learn lessons that go beyond the ring.
We specialize in boxing and athletic performance training, blending the science of kinesiology with real fight experience. Every athlete who walks through our doors gets personalized attention, whether they’re training for competition, fitness, or just looking to build confidence.
What sets us apart is the culture. We’re not just a gym; we’re a family. Everyone supports each other, pushes each other, and grows together. There’s no ego here, just heart, sweat, and purpose.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the impact we’re making on the community. Seeing young people grow stronger, more disciplined, and more confident that’s what drives everything we do. I want readers to know that our gym stands for more than boxing. We stand for opportunity, growth, and second chances.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that success isn’t just about what you achieve, it’s about what you give back. I’ve realized that real impact comes from helping others find their purpose or helping others find a safe place. Owning a boxing gym taught me that sometimes people don’t need a perfect plan; they just need someone to believe in them.
I’ve also learned the value of patience and consistency. Nothing happens overnight, whether it’s building a business, mastering your craft, or guiding someone through their own battles. Staying true to your purpose, even when it gets tough, is what keeps everything moving forward.
