Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Shaw Van Zandt.
Hi Marisa , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Garland, graduated from Garland High School (GHS). I am a twin who unfortunately lost my other half in 2016, way too soon and the reason why I am know as TWIN TWIN.
I met my husband via a blind date and we’ve been married for 30 years (he will say 34….since the time we met lol).
I have three grown children ages 34, 32 and 28 and 5 grandchildren. I work in the corporate world. My hobbies are cruising, dancing, working out and taking care of my new puppy Cookie (she’s amazing).
I love to make charcuterie boards and teach women how to smoke cigars….which is my side business.
I purchased a Jeep Wrangler a year ago and I love that decision….I’m a Jeep lover who loves to duck other jeeps and enjoys being ducked. 🐤.
I am a model (hair shows mainly) and competed in three showcases at Bronner Brothers where we took home the prize in 2024.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish I could say it’s been a smooth road but as you know life has a way of keeping you grounded, humbled and motivated. No major struggles just life in general.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been in Banking since 2001, where I started out with Bank One which is now Chase. I currently work in the back office for Bank of America as an Anti-Money Laundering Investigator (AML). My prior role was in the Front Office as a Financial Center Manager for years and I decided after COVID I wanted to be my own individual contributor.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that there are many Black Owned Businesses in our communities.
My least love is the traffic and construction on every major highway. Ugh! Fix it Jesus lol 😂.
