Inspiring Conversations with Jerrod Pickering of Passports to Property Real Estate Team

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerrod Pickering.

Hi Jerrod, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started in real estate in 2021, right after the pandemic. Like a lot of people at that time, I was rethinking what I wanted to do with my life and how I could help people in a meaningful way. Around that same time, I also became a travel agent. The bottom line for me has always been helping people — whether it’s finding their dream home or planning a trip that creates lifelong memories.

I worked with both buyers and sellers, residential and commercial, and built up a strong client base pretty quickly. At the same time, I was also helping people navigate the post-COVID travel surge — finding safe, unforgettable places to go when the world started opening back up. Both industries took off fast, but it became clear I couldn’t give both businesses the focus they deserved.

That’s when I decided to take what I’d learned from travel — the attention to detail, the sense of adventure, and the focus on experience — and pour it into real estate full-time. That idea evolved into the Passports to Property Real Estate Team. I brought on a second agent, and together our mission is simple: help luxury clients in DFW not just buy locally, but open doors abroad too. Whether someone wants a second vacation home, a retirement property, or is preparing to become an expat, we handle the entire journey — from connecting with agents overseas to setting up bank accounts, planning scouting trips, and even figuring out how to move pets and plants.

During this same period, I also became an author. I’ve written two books — the second to be released in December 2025 — focused on how companies can successfully train their employees against cyber-related threats. Writing those books allowed me to combine my background in cybersecurity and education with my passion for helping people grow. In many ways, that mindset carries over into real estate too — it’s all about empowering people with the knowledge, confidence, and tools they need to make smart, lasting decisions.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think any business ever has a completely smooth road — especially not in real estate. You can’t throw a rock in DFW without hitting two or three agents, so standing out has always been the challenge. That first year was great because of the boom; homes were moving fast, and business seemed to come naturally. But the last few years have been tougher — higher interest rates, a shaky economy, and rising prices have made things a lot more competitive.

Through it all, my focus has been finding what makes me different and doubling down on it. I truly believe the services I offer are unique — not just here in DFW but beyond. I answer the phone when people call, I respond to texts, and I genuinely care about helping clients through every part of the process. That simple consistency matters more than most realize.

More recently, I also launched Passports…After Dark, which is a luxury cultural event series designed to bring people together around travel, lifestyle, and real estate in a more social, elevated setting. Combining that with my global property expertise gives me a lane that no one else in DFW is really running in. It’s not always easy, but it’s authentic — and that’s what keeps me moving forward.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Passports to Property Real Estate Team?
The Passports to Property Real Estate Team helps anyone who has a real estate need — buyers, sellers, or commercial clients — but we’ve really built our lane around the luxury lifestyle. That doesn’t just mean expensive homes; it means delivering a level of service and experience that feels personal and elevated. One thing people quickly notice is that I respond — if you call or text, you’ll hear back from me within an hour. That might sound simple, but in this business, reliability and responsiveness go a long way.

What really sets us apart, though, is the global side of what we do. Passports to Property isn’t just about helping people find a home in DFW — it’s also about helping them find a home abroad. We work with clients looking for second homes, investment properties, or retirement options overseas, and we make the process seamless. From connecting with international realtors to setting up scouting trips, banking, and logistics like moving pets or managing paperwork — we handle the details so clients can focus on the experience.

Then there’s Passports…After Dark, which ties everything together. It’s our private cultural event series that blends luxury real estate, travel, and lifestyle into one experience. Each event — like our Taste of Italy wine night — creates a space for clients and community members to connect, learn, and have fun while exploring global culture. For me, it’s not just about selling homes; it’s about building relationships and curating experiences that inspire people to think bigger about what “home” can mean.

I’m proud that our brand has grown into something that stands for trust, accessibility, and adventure. Whether it’s helping a family buy their first home in Texas or guiding someone through purchasing property in Greece or Portugal, we bring that same personal touch. It’s not a cookie-cutter approach — it’s a lifestyle.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is that people know I genuinely care about them — not just about their property. They’re not just a commission or a transaction to me. I care about their whole life. If someone needs a prayer, I’ll stop and pray with them. If there’s a need I can help meet, I’ll do my best to go above and beyond to make it happen.

At the end of the day, I just love serving people. That’s really what drives everything I do — in business, in my writing, and in my personal life. Real estate happens to be the vehicle, but the mission is about helping people feel seen, supported, and cared for.
