Today we’d like to introduce you to Heesoo Yang.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I took a speech class in eighth grade, and we had a video project as part of an assignment. As soon as I picked up that camera and started editing, I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life. I carried that passion into college, and through a lot of networking, I was able to find work on campus. Ever since then, I haven’t looked back.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anyone would tell you that owning a business is smooth time. Whether it’s dealing with client logistics or coordinating with hired help, there are always new challenges that arise. I’d say the biggest challenges I’ve faced all came this year. I got extremely sick during the peak of my busy season, and my main editor and confidant bailed on me around the same time. Getting through that period was just as difficult as it sounds. It taught me invaluable lessons about the importance of building better systems for my business in case the worst were ever to happen.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work with sororities to create lasting, impactful videos for their recruitment. Whether it’s event videos, executive photoshoots, social media hype reels, recruitment videos that play during rounds, or anything in between, I show up to create a memorable impression for both current and future members.
While many who work with sororities operate purely as videographers, I run my operation more like a creative agency. I take pride in the psychological accuracy of how each chapter is portrayed, and my videos have a tangible impact on recruitment—often reflected in stronger engagement and improved metrics during the process.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can always reach out to me. I’m always looking to connect with creative people, to pick their brains while they pick mine over coffee (or matcha, in my case). I love collaborating with talented shooters and editors. You can find me on Instagram at @heesooyang. I always appreciate referrals to chapters—and, more than anything, I’m grateful for all the kind words and support during recruitment season.
