Check Out Vickie Bell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vickie Bell.

Hi Vickie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I knew in middle school I would do hair for a very long. It brought me such joy to see the smiles I put on ladies faces. God laid the path for me. I knew the salon I wanted to work at and I needed clientele to work there so I went down the street to another salon and established enough in 6 months to go to the salon I wanted to be at, Scruples, in Desoto which has been closed for years. I then went on to dream of owning my own one day. My first salon was in Lancaster, the town square. It was Hair on the Square for several years, and from there I was asked to come work/manage a new up coming salon, from there I knew God wanted me to open my own and help guide others to be the best in the industry and that’s where Swink Color Bar came to pass. We are located in a historical landmark, the original train depot in Midlothian. The name came from my son, who after much thought came up with Swink, which means to work hard, to labor. We then opened other family businesses named Swink. My son , Andrè Jones opened Swink Athletics, my daughter Makenzie Aman opened Swink Sweets and my daughter-n-law Betsy Jones, Swink photography. They’ve all moved on but my daughter has gone on to get her hair license to work along side me and soon take over Swink. I’ve now served Ellis county 40 years and it’s the path God has laid for me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Giggle, not always smooth. I worked at a salon for 7 years where I felt the owners were taking advantage of the hairdressers so I called a meeting with everyone and was let go after the meeting. I then found a room in the back of a spa I was offered to work, then let go the first day, as I had too many clients coming through and it was loud and that’s when I found the perfect building for Swink.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hairdresser who has the privilege of making hair dreams come true. I specialize in short hair, which is far and few between nowadays to find.
I’m most proud of my 2 beautiful children and being a YaYa! We are so close and we take on life together. However at this point in my life me and my husband have a farm where we grow our own food, stock our ponds have coffee every morning together and try to leave a small footprint.
What sets me apart? I would like to believe my will to bring others together and feel loved in a safe place where we believe in Jesus Christ.
From the minute you walk into Swink and see how we treat you like family, is what sets us apart.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love guiding all future or current hairdresser in finding their purpose and bringing us together! Come shadow me and my girls and you will see how we honor others. My moto is kill them with kindness.
