Today we’d like to introduce you to Symeon Washington.
Hi Symeon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been a fan of music, Hip Hop to be exact. The culture behind Hip Hop being born in the late 80s guided me into art. The imagery and sound around Virginia influence me to want to capture moments. Even though I couldn’t afford a camera at those times, I had friends who had one. They weren’t the best, but I’ve always had that eye that captures the right moment. After moving to the DFW area, I met my wife who had a camera that help started my passion.
Now I’m the cool, traveling, freestyle, professional freelance cameraman. Everyone I’ve worked with have continued used my services more than once.
I’ve worked with music artist like Wiz Khalifa, Young Deji, Snoop Dogg, Sauce Walka, Rae Srummerd, Big X Tha Plug, Logic, ArchieLee214 and more.
I film and take pictures for weddings, events, quinceañeras, graduations, campaigns, headshots, music videos and anything else needed behind the camera.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like Forrest Gump said “Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get”. There are a lot of good months, plenty of slow months. It’s all about networking and grinding a lot more.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Freestyle freelance is my specialty. Not sure if thats a term or type of work known for camera work, but I can capture any and everything needed. I’m known for really being the fly on the wall. I smile a lot and normally carry my camera with me almost everywhere. It’s like having an extra wallet, so it’s easy for me to grab business. That’s what set me apart from others. It’s really fun! I don’t look at it as a job, it’s more of a social gathering to me.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family and friends. My wife, she is my energy. We’ve established a home to grow in two kids and we’ve been married 10 years!
