Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Alvarez.
Hi Nancy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my beauty business right out of my mom’s house, working from one of her back rooms with maybe one client every other week. Back then, I was mostly doing sugaring and body contouring. Even though it was small, it was where I started learning how much I loved helping women feel confident and comfortable in their skin.
Eventually, I moved into my first suite — a little office space that was pretty hidden and quiet. I barely had any clientele and honestly wasn’t even making enough to cover rent. I had to use money from my other job at T-Mobile just to keep it going. But I believed in myself and knew I needed to be somewhere with more visibility.
That’s when I moved into a super cute salon that had more foot traffic. I started showing up consistently on Instagram — posting my work, doing giveaways, offering referral incentives, and giving discounts to other beauty providers to get my name out there. Slowly but surely, it started to work.
A month later, I took a leap of faith and left my T-Mobile job after 7 years to focus fully on my business. It was the scariest and best decision I’ve ever made. I finally started making a profit, and before I knew it, I was dreaming bigger — wanting my own space and more room to grow.
Now, I have my own studio with three rooms, my clientele keeps growing, and I’m beyond grateful. I absolutely love what I do — not just the services, but the relationships I build with every client who sits in my chair. Watching my clients leave glowing and confident makes every challenge worth it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been far from easy, especially in the beginning. Building clientele completely on my own was one of my biggest challenges. When you start from scratch, it’s not just about offering great services — you also have to learn marketing, how to get your name out there, and how to stay consistent even when no one’s booking.
There were times I doubted myself, especially when business was slow or I had to use my paycheck from my other job just to cover rent. But every challenge taught me something. I learned how to network, promote myself, and stay patient through the slow seasons.
Looking back now, I’m so proud I never gave up — every “empty” week pushed me to work harder and get more creative. Now, seeing how far I’ve come makes all those hard days worth it. 💖
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an esthetician and the owner of Comfort + Glow Wax & Skin Studio in Irving, Texas.
I specialize in Brazilian waxing, but I also offer a variety of other waxing services, brow waxing, and customized facials. My goal is always to help women feel confident, comfortable, and cared for — not just on the outside, but inside too.
What truly sets me apart is the connection I build with every single client who walks through my door. I want each person to feel safe, heard, and like they’re catching up with a friend while being pampered. A lot of my clients tell me they look forward to their appointments not only because of the results, but because of the experience and the comfort they feel during their visit.
I’m most proud of how far my business has come — from starting in my mom’s house to now having my own studio with multiple rooms and a growing clientele. Every person who trusts me with their self-care means the world to me. My business isn’t just about waxing — it’s about creating a space where women can glow inside and out. ✨
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Honestly, I don’t think any of it was luck.
Everything I’ve built has come from hard work, consistency, and the support of my circle. I’ve had to push through fear, slow seasons, and moments of doubt — but I’ve also had people who believed in me every step of the way.
My husband and my two closest friends have been my biggest supporters. My husband especially has played such a huge role — he’s always encouraged me to dream bigger, helped me with the kids, and reminded me to keep going when things got tough. I truly couldn’t have done it without that kind of love and support behind me.
So no, I don’t believe it was luck. I believe it was faith, hard work, and the right people in my corner. ✨
