Inspiring Conversations with Amy Scottino of Emerald Bodywork Education

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Scottino.

Amy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Emerald Bodywork Education was born out of both passion and necessity. As a Licensed Massage Therapist and Massage Therapy Instructor, I’ve always believed that continuing education should be more than just meeting requirements — it should be meaningful, inspiring, and deeply connected to the heart of our work.

After the COVID-19 shutdowns, when our industry slowly began reopening, I noticed a serious gap in my massage community: there were hardly any in-person continuing education classes available. Therapists were eager to reconnect, to learn hands-on again, and to rebuild that sense of community we had all missed so much.

I already had a couple of classes written, so I decided to take a leap. I quickly applied for and received my Texas Continuing Education Provider license, scheduled a couple of classes, and put the word out. To my surprise and gratitude, those classes filled almost immediately with registrations from fellow therapists. And honestly, it’s been that way ever since.

What started as a way to fill a local need has grown into something far beyond what I could have imagined. Emerald Bodywork Education has become a trusted, heart-centered space where massage therapists come not only to learn new techniques, but to reconnect with their purpose, confidence, and passion for the work we do.

Even now, I’m still a little in awe of how organically it all unfolded. It feels miraculous — that something created from such a genuine place of need and love continues to grow and impact others in such meaningful ways.

At its core, Emerald Bodywork Education is about connection, integrity, and inspiration — empowering therapists through education that touches both skill and spirit. Building community not created competition.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been all smooth sailing — but every challenge has taught me something valuable.

In the beginning, I had a business partner who shared my vision for Emerald Bodywork Education. As the journey unfolded, she needed to step away, and we both came to that decision with complete understanding and no hard feelings. Still, it meant that I suddenly had to take on every part of the operation myself — from course development and marketing to scheduling and logistics. It was a lot to carry, but it also pushed me to grow in ways I didn’t expect.

Another ongoing challenge has been finding the right spaces to host classes. Not every location is ideal for bodywork education — I need rooms with enough space, comfort, and accessibility for hands-on learning. It’s taken time, creativity, and some trial and error to build relationships with venues that truly support the experience I want my students to have.

Even with those bumps in the road, I wouldn’t change the journey. Each challenge has helped me refine my vision and reminded me why I started Emerald Bodywork Education in the first place — to create something meaningful, adaptable, and full of heart.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What truly sets Emerald Bodywork Education apart is the heart behind it. I built this from the ground up to serve massage therapists in a way that feels personal, supportive, and real. My focus has always been on creating an environment where practitioners feel seen, encouraged, and re-energized in their craft — not just filling a CE requirement, but reconnecting with why they fell in love with bodywork in the first place.

My classes are intentionally small and hands-on so I can give each student individual attention and feedback. I want people to leave not only with new skills, but with confidence, clarity, and a sense of belonging in this profession.

Another thing that makes Emerald Bodywork Education unique is the sense of community it fosters. Many of my students end up connecting with one another long after class — sharing referrals, advice, and even friendships. That sense of togetherness reminds me why in-person education is so powerful.

At its core, Emerald Bodywork Education is about connection, quality, and authenticity — helping therapists grow both professionally and personally, one class at a time.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
My vision for the massage therapy profession is that it continues to gain the recognition it truly deserves — not as a luxury, but as a necessary part of overall health and wellness, right alongside seeing your dentist or your primary care physician for regular checkups. Massage therapy plays such a vital role in preventive care, stress management, and long-term wellbeing, and I believe the public understanding of that is growing stronger every year.

On the education side, I feel we’re entering a bit of a renaissance. There are so many gifted and innovative educators who have paved the way for this profession, and as some of them begin to step back or pass on, it’s up to the next generation of instructors to carry their torches forward — preserving their wisdom while also bringing fresh ideas, modern approaches, and new energy into how we teach.

It’s an exciting time for massage therapy. I see a future filled with collaboration, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the healing work we do — both in the treatment room and in the classroom.
