Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Laughlin.
Hi Casey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Texas Outdoor Oasis began long before it had a name. In 2001, we entered the green industry with little more than a Craftsman mower, a Ryobi weedeater, and an unwavering work ethic. What started as a small, one-man lawn maintenance operation grew quickly. By 2005, we had established crews, expanded our service offerings, and steadily built a loyal customer base — always driven by the desire to provide greater value.
Everything shifted in 2009 with a large landscape project in North Dallas that required features we had never built before: an outdoor kitchen, deck, and arbor. To complete it, we brought in a subcontractor — a small, talented company called Texas Outdoor Oasis. Despite their skill, the business was struggling in the aftermath of the housing market crash. Seeing both potential and passion, we made an offer to purchase the company. On January 1, 2010, Texas Outdoor Oasis officially became part of our journey.
Our first year closed at $1 million in revenue — a milestone achieved through focused effort and a commitment to excellence. But in 2012, the business faced a major setback when the original owner departed abruptly, taking crews and customers with him. Rather than compromise our values, we made the difficult decision to shut down the operation entirely, refund deposits, and rebuild from scratch while continuing to run our landscape company.
Then came a turning point no one could have predicted.
A carpenter named Tommy Redfearn walked into our office looking for work. Experienced, humble, and full of integrity, Tommy listened to our story and simply said, “I don’t need much to get by on. If you’re willing, let’s take a stab at getting it back up and going.”
With that, the rebuild began.
Over the next several years, Tommy became the heart of the company — training crews, establishing standards, and shaping the level of craftsmanship Texas Outdoor Oasis is known for today. His dedication set the foundation for the brand’s transformation and long-term success. Tommy passed away in 2024, but his influence lives on in every pool, patio, and outdoor space we create.
Today, Texas Outdoor Oasis stands as one of the most respected names in the pool and outdoor living industry. What started with one mower has grown into a full-service team of designers, project managers, and skilled tradespeople committed to bringing structure, transparency, and professionalism to an industry that can still feel like the wild west.
We’re grateful for the journey — and even more excited for what’s ahead.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
