Meet Dom Nguyen of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dom Nguyen.

Hi Dom, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first became interested in fashion through sneakers around 2016. I was really focused on collecting shoes, but I eventually realized I didn’t have the clothing to match them. That pushed me to start paying more attention to how I dressed. I still remember vividly one of my friends told me “What the f*** are you wearing, Dom?” because my outfit was completely mismatched. That moment made me realize I needed to step up my style.

As I dove deeper into fashion, I found that dressing well gave me a sense of confidence I hadn’t felt before. Along the way, I started noticing details about the clothing I purchased—how certain pieces could look better if something was tailored differently, added, or removed. That naturally led me to ask myself: “Why don’t I design clothes myself?”

I began developing the concept for my brand in late 2020 to early 2021. During that time, I was heavily inspired by Fear of God, known for their relaxed silhouettes, neutral or muted color palettes, and unique approach to tailoring. Their aesthetic aligned closely with where my personal style was at the time which influenced the initial direction of my brand, ODYSSEY. In 2023, I released my first capsule collection that reflected my own style at the time.

Since then, I’ve had to put ODYSSEY on a pause due to personal and financial circumstances. However, I’ve continued to work behind the scenes—researching, designing, and refining ideas. Right now in the pipeline, I’m developing medieval inspired muay thai shorts and drafting up pants and headwear. I’m really excited to bring these designs to life next year!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey definitely wasn’t a smooth one. I ran into a lot of issues early on, mainly with manufacturers. Finding one that could hit the level of quality and detail I wanted was tough. And even once I found the right one, that only solved one problem—there were still plenty more. Since I was working with people overseas, I’d be up late speaking with them, and with English not being their first language, there were definitely moments where things got miscommunicated. That led to multiple costly rounds of samples and waiting on shipping, which pushed my timeline back way more than I expected.

On top of that, I was pretty much running most things by myself; designing, business, social media—so there was a lot to learn along the way. But I don’t regret any of it. Every challenge taught me something that I still carry with me, and it’s made me better prepared for the future. Huge shoutout to everyone who stepped in when I needed it most, y’all know who you are.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My day-to-day work currently helps fund the bigger vision: designing clothes that make people look good and feel good through my brand.

I’m really proud of myself for taking that first step with my initial drop and committing to the journey instead of walking away from it when things got tough. I’ve learned and grown so much as a person from the experience so far!

What sets me apart is that I’m not trying to fit a mold or follow trends — I’m building from my own experiences and emotions. Everything I create or do comes from a real place, and I’m hoping people can connect with that.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I definitely have my off days where I don’t feel like putting myself together. I’m not dressed in a crazy fit every single day I as many might think haha.

If anything, I only really put on a nice outfit once a week on the weekends — maybe twice if I’m really out and about. But I love playing dress up at home. It’s super fun trying on new pieces or finding different ways to style what I already have in my current wardrobe.
