Today we’d like to introduce you to SAM Morrison.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is SAM, no it is not short for Samantha (smile). I get asked that question almost every day of my life. My initials spell SAM and that is what I have gone by for most of my life. I have always considered myself a creator and connector. I love marketing and advertising and storytelling in general. You asked what my company name is and I put SafeHeart Connections but also am the Publisher/Owner for a monthly neighborhood newsletter in the Plano area called “Life at the Ridge”.
SafeHeart Connections was created to encourage women to have real-life discussions about real life situations so that when life gets hard, and it will get hard, they have a tribe of women to help them. I have published several books, mostly devotionals. All of my books have a space to write in because I believe there is power in writing.
The book I consider my “baby” is called “Shining Light into the Darkness”. It is workbook style and designed to be used in a group setting. It covers the following topics:
-Depression
-Addiction
-Suicide
-Domestic Abuse
-Self-Worth
Each of these issues has touched my life in one way or another. I am a Christian and believe that the church should be the safest place to discuss these issues, but have found, sadly, that is not the case.
My desire is to speak at women’s groups at different churches to help them get the dialogue started and create community in a way that can really make a difference.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting from where I was to where I am now has not been an easy journey but believe that every situation has allowed me to grow and learn something that will allow me to help others.
I just have to be intentional with my thoughts and actions and believe that God will guide me to those that I can help or that can help me. We all need a little help sometimes.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about SafeHeart Connections – what should we know?
I mentioned earlier that there is space to write in each of my books that is very intentional. There is something different that happens when you actually write something rather than just think it or even type it. I am currently doing some research on this topic and hope to have an even better understanding of the “why” it matters very soon.
There is power in writing. There is power in being able to look back over time and seeing the progress that you have made. I want to encourage people to take the time to write down their prayers, thoughts, dreams because as my Momma has said many times, “write it down to make it real”.
I would like to think that my company is known for is showing love, grace and kindness to all we come in contact with. We have an intentional mindset that allows us to reach out in a way that can help someone in a very tangible way. Just taking the time to listen to someone that has had a bad day can be more helpful than you realize.
Yes, I want to sell some books and do some speaking engagements but at the heart of that is wanting to make a difference in the lives of people so that they can see that they don’t have to be who they were. They can make a different choice. I know this because I have.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that my desire to help others and know that God will handle the rest is a big part of my success. In the Bible, it says to love God and love others as yourself. If we all just tried to do that a little bit more each day the world would be a better place.
