Today we’d like to introduce you to Leonel Parra.
Hi Leonel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Leonel Parra, born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, and my journey began at 15 years old. I started working in my family’s carpentry business at the age of 12. That experience taught me the value of hard work.
Around that time, I found a barbershop nearby and started getting my haircuts regularly. I was drawn to the environment, the energy and the sense of community. It became something I looked forward to every week, and before long, I knew I wanted to be part of that world.
At 15, I enrolled in barber school part-time while trying to balance high school and helping my parents with their business. It wasn’t easy managing all three, but that dedication helped shape who I am today.
By 19, I landed my first job at a barbershop in Arlington, Texas. It was just the owner and me at first. He had his clientele, and I started with only a few regulars, but I took in every walk-in I could. Over time, that small base grew into something bigger.
Then came 2020 and the pandemic. Like many others, we were forced to shut down. During that time, I returned to carpentry full-time, cutting only close friends and loyal clients from home. When shops reopened, I returned thinking I’d have to start from scratch, but I was wrong. My clients came back, and I was busier than ever, working long hours.
In 2022, I decided to take the next step and move my business to South Fort Worth, where I now operate at a private studio by appointment only. It’s been ten years since I started this journey, and my passion for the craft continues to grow every day. From perfecting a haircut to building genuine relationships with my clients, I’ve come to appreciate every moment of this journey.
Looking ahead, I hope to continue scaling my business and one day build a team of like-minded barbers who share the same drive, creativity, and commitment to excellence.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say one of the biggest challenges I faced when I started, was my age and lack of knowledge in the industry. I guess no one trusts the new guy right?
Covid was another bump along the road. It truly made me appreciate what I had built, so coming back from that I was more motivated than ever.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a barber who specializes in men’s grooming. I work with all kinds of hair including straight, curly, coarse or thin.
I pride myself in my attention to detail, and I would say that’s what im known for. I truly believe that detailed work is what elevates my craft.
I’m proud of my dedication to the profession, but what I’m most proud of is my skill. When I started my journey, I didn’t think I could provide the quality I do now. I continue to persue ongoing education trying to perfect my work and I believe that sets me apart from others.
How do you think about happiness?
Knowing that I’m trusted is truly what makes me happy. I value the fact that people confide in me and share their stories while I help them look their best. I genuinely look forward to every conversation and connection I build with every client.
