Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Ingle.
Hi Sarah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
While I initially majored in psychology, it took a bland desk job post-graduation to inspire the creation of a blog that helped me pass the time. (Sitting nine hours at a desk in an office with no windows will inspire all sorts of creativity!) My blog quickly turned into a healthy side income, which sparked a passion for SEO, web design, and marketing.
A local advertising agency in Little Rock, Arkansas took a chance on me and hired me as Project Director in their growing web design department. After several years there—while still blogging on the side—I landed a remote position with an influencer marketing agency, where I helped manage shopper marketing campaigns through other bloggers and burgeoning social media stars. This was what I like to call “the golden age of blogging,” long before TikTok entered the picture.
After moving to Texas, I accepted the Communications Director role at a large church in Fort Worth. This position carried me through Covid, and after I stepped away, I fell into the world of nonprofit marketing and fundraising consulting. Having read Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller, I started to feel the nudge to bet on myself and become a Certified StoryBrand Coach. In March of this year, I flew to Nashville and did exactly that.
Now, I not only use my marketing experience to help faith-based organizations increase generosity and achieve their fundraising goals, but I’m able to pursue everything I do through the lens of StoryBrand. Whether it’s an end-of-year fundraising push, a debt-payoff initiative, or increased social media and email communication around a capital campaign, all of my clients’ messaging remains strategically rooted in the StoryBrand framework. Because in the words of Donald Miller, “If you confuse, you lose!”
I also help these same organizations craft narrative-based Cases for Supports that invite donors into a story, so they’re not just giving to a cause, they’re stepping into a mission. Using the StoryBrand framework, I help them translate campaign goals into compelling stories that highlight the problem, clearly articulate what’s at stake, show their vision for the future, and make it easy for donors to say, “I’m in!”
On the side, I take on small business clients, teaching them the StoryBrand framework and offering Squarespace web design and ongoing strategic marketing partnerships. I’m a firm believer that marketing doesn’t have to be complicated, and the most compelling message is the one that’s easiest to understand!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a working mom, I’d say nothing ever comes smoothly. But, finding the courage to advocate for yourself in every step of your career, is so incredibly important. Fully owning your title of “working mom” has so much power – be unapologetically proud of how hard you work, whether from home or out of the home. Mothers are some of the hardest workers I’ve ever known and finding a way to incorporate your mama bear tenacity into everything you do will make you that much more of an asset to any organization you serve.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’d say what I’m most proud of is building a career that allows me to make an impact in the faith-based world professionally, while still being able to be present and available for my kids. I’ve worked really hard to create the balance I have now, and I am eternally grateful for that.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
