Life & Work with Jeremy Harris of Little Elm, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Harris.

Hi Jeremy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Though I grew up in church, it was at the age of 17 that I had a very personal and powerful encounter with God in my home church West End Church of God in Christ in a little town named Bastrop, Louisiana. God filled me with his Spirit and instructed me to attend college in Waco, TX at Baylor University, where I graduated with my Bachelors in 2011.

It was at Baylor University between the years of 2007 and 2011 that I actively became involved in ministering to others. I connected with various ministries such as Antioch Fellowship Church, where I was exposed to their powerful college small group ministries. I quickly found myself connected to their “urban” small groups, in which I helped to minister to homeless and recovering citizens in the roughest neighborhoods of Waco, TX. I was also a leader and great soul winner for my college church Living Word Church of God in Christ and our college ministry C.O.R.E. College Out-Reach and Evangelism. Most of this occurred before the age of 20. Later I was officially licensed as a Minister in 2012, and Ordained as an Elder 7 years later in 2019. In 2020, I graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry.

In the spring of 2020, while the church and many institutions were shut down in Waco, Texas due to the Covid-19 Pandemic Lock-down, my spirit was grieved at the dark cloud that seemed to be draped over the land. It was at that time that the Spirit of the Lord impressed upon my spirit that the church is called to be a “light in darkness” – (inspired by Matthew 5:14a). While pleading with other ministry leaders to come together, God instructed me to stop asking others to do what he was leading ME to do. From that point I consulted with my wife Jasmine for her support, and I asked on social media for those who would be willing to donate and help assist in an outreach effort to cook and deliver food to those who were convalescent or without resources. After meeting with the group of volunteers, we adopted the name “Believers United” with the slogan “Believers United to Be a Light in Darkness.” This grassroots ministry effort in the height of the lockdown season of the pandemic served as a spiritual catalyst for me in personal ministry.

Four years later, in a new city and region – the Little Elm/Aubrey Area of Far North DFW- I felt the call of God to be the answer to what the community is lacking and feels no other ministry in the area can provide. In the second half of 2024, my wife Jasmine and I launched Believers United Outreach Church with prayer, bible studies, and community outreach initiatives. At the start of 2025, we began hosting weekly worship services, and God has added members to this ministry throughout the year.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My wife and I are well acquainted with the highs and lows that may come with leading in Ministry. Sometimes, when you obey God, you may experience loneliness. The people you expect to support and be there, may not be the ones who God has called to help you! So we have learned to trust God and, most importantly, to not compare ourselves to others. My new phrase is, “We are building the Kingdom of God, one step at a time.”

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As I alluded to before, ministry did not just start for me when I felt God leading me to be a founding Pastor. I have held positions such as Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, Director of Finance/Comptroller, Trustee Member, and Executive Board Member. I have served the Church of God in Christ International Youth Department as Regional Logistics Coordinator, State Coordinator, and International Logistics Division Leader. I’m proud to say that while I’ve served in many capacities and ministries over the course of over 18 years, I’ve never chased the “limelight” of ministry. For many of those years, I’ve worked behind the scenes and served in ways that may never be publicly known or celebrated, way more often than I touched a microphone to preach. I believe that has allowed me to never lose the “common touch” among the people that I serve in any capacity, and also allowed me to learn to appreciate what it takes to operationally run a ministry. In this culture where many use the pulpit to become celebrities, I still believe that people should know that we are still human and that God loves the preacher and the parishioner just the same!

At Believers United Outreach Church, I believe we will be set apart by fulfilling our mission to grow the Body of Christ by making disciples, be the light of Christ to the world through love, and spread the hope of Christ through outreach and evangelism. We are actively engaged in the community in events surrounding the Little Elm and Aubrey Areas by hosting “Community Sunday School”, Prayer and Outreach Booths at local events, and we even hosted an outdoor Good Friday Worship Concert this year. We are taking the approach of not only inviting people into the four walls of our worship service, but taking worship and service to where people are!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would also like readers to know that I would not be in this capacity without the love and support of my loving wife of nearly 14 years, Jasmine! This experience launching a new church has underscored the fact that God has given me the love of my life and my ultimate teammate in every aspect! I’m one blessed man!

I would also like readers who live in the DFW area and are not connected with a local church to follow us and check us out. We are a new ministry seeking to win those may have felt disconnected from church and are seeking a sincere walk with God! Every Sunday we experience the power and presence of God! This is the place where people become believers and believers become disciples of Jesus Christ!
