Rose Scoggins shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Rose , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
The most surprising thing I’ve learned is how often my clients underestimate themselves and the endless ways they can use the content we create together. My job is to tell their brand story through organic, intentional, and relatable content that they want to share on their website, social media, or print marketing materials. I’ve also noticed that many clients start out a little shy in front of the camera but are extremely confident and leaders in their industry. My favorite part is helping my clients relax, have fun, and bring out the confidence that their audience and peers see when they initially meet them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi friends! I’m Rose, a published brand and portrait photographer based in Dallas–Fort Worth, passionate about helping women and business owners feel confident, seen, and proud of how they show up in their brand. Through my business I create content that tells your story, not just what you do, but who you are. This year, I’m focused on helping more brands step into the season with clarity, confidence, and content that truly represents them.
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial heart; it’s in my DNA. I grew up in a family-run business where I learned what hard work, sacrifice, and self-worth truly mean. Those early lessons shaped how I show up for my clients today — with grit, gratitude, and a deep respect for the hustle. My creative journey began in a small photo studio, my first job outside the family business. That’s where I fell in love with photography. Eventually, I shifted into a corporate career in operations and management, but when the pandemic hit, everything changed. I decided to take a leap of FAITH. I invested in myself, upgraded my gear, and turned my passion into my full-time career. Now, brand photography is where my heart truly lives. I blend my business background with my creative side to help entrepreneurs and brands find their voice and marketing needs.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom taught me everything I know about work and life. When she started her business, she was a single mom raising three daughters and doing everything she could to make it work. She’s from Korea, had no formal education, and figured it all out on her own.
Every day, we went with her to the beauty supply store. We helped with inventory, cleaned the showcases, talked to customers, and watched her build something from the ground up. Behind the scenes, she was teaching us lessons about perseverance, money, and faith without even realizing it.
Through every hardship, she never wavered in her belief that God would guide and protect us. Now she’s retired and enjoying the fruits of her labor. From sharing one bed with her three girls to living in a beautiful, well-established community, she’s living proof that hard work, faith, and pressure truly make diamonds.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
My biggest fear has always been feeling like I’m behind, like I’m not where I thought I’d be by a certain point in my life, especially when it comes to financial stability and success.
Growing up as a military brat, I moved around a lot and constantly had to restart with new schools, new environments, and new people. I often felt like I was always trying to catch up, both academically and personally. I used to tell myself I’d never own my own business because I saw firsthand how much my mom sacrificed when she ran hers. The stress, the long hours, and the constant pressure made me think a steady 9-to-5 job was the safer route.
When COVID hit, I realized no one’s path is truly safe. That season made me see that God had been preparing me all along. Growing up in a family business and navigating the corporate world were both experiences that shaped me for this exact moment.
Now, I remind myself that fear doesn’t get to make the decisions anymore. If the worst thing that can happen is something I can overcome, then I trust that God will carry me through it. Taking that leap of faith lit a fire in me. It gave me the confidence to believe I am worthy, capable, and exactly where I’m meant to be.
And today, I can say that without fear, just faith.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I can sum it up in three big lies:
First: “Photographers just take pictures.”
I think people only know what they know, and it’s not their fault. Some clients, and even some photographers, don’t realize how much goes into building a successful photography business. There’s strategy, planning, directing, storytelling, and the ability to translate a client’s vision into content that connect. Every photo is intentional and every shoot has a purpose behind it.
Second: “Investing in a brand photographer is a waste of money.”
Many people don’t understand how powerful one image can be when it’s used strategically. A single photo can be repurposed across websites, social media, ads, and print marketing. When the content isn’t used to its full potential, it’s easy to assume it wasn’t worth it, but that’s rarely the case. The problem isn’t the photography, it’s the execution and management afterwards.
Third: “You have to look perfect before scheduling a photoshoot.”
Absolutely not. You just have to show up as yourself. Confidence and connection will always outshine perfection. One of the most beautiful parts of being a photographer is showing clients the version of themselves they don’t always get to see. We’re the mirror and what we reflect back is always beautiful.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
What I’ve come to understand is that every season, even the hard ones, prepares you for where you’re meant to be. Sometimes it’s hard to see the light or understand the reason behind it all, but I truly believe that your life and your gifts have a purpose. The key is to focus on what you can control — your mindset, your environment, and the choices you make. Everything outside of that is simply a lesson designed to shape you into the person you’re meant to become. Every challenge, every pause, every moment of doubt is part of your growth, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
